Left shoulder/neck pain

Recommended Posts

Okay, you August Bandsters.... this might seem like a weird symptom, but I am getting it out here. I was banded on 08/16/07. I have had one fill so far of 1 cc in a 4 cc band. I don't really feel that much restriction so far. After I eat, I wait my 1-1.5 hours before I drink any fluids again (I am a good girl when it comes to this), the problem is, is that sometimes after I drink for the first time after eating, I get this horrid pain on top of my left shoulder up the left side of my neck and it stops at the back of my ear. No problems with my right shoulder. Is that funky or what? It kind of feels like those gas pains after surgery, but I am over two months out from surgery. Am I alone on this one? Am I eating too much? Drinking to much or too fast? Sometimes it hurts so bad, I contemplate taking a pain med. I go for my next fill tomorrow, I will ask the fill nurse as well. Thanks!!

Hi:

I get this pain too. I talked to my doctor about it. He said that it's because I'm irritating my esophogus and there's a nerve that runs along side the esophogus that goes up through your shoulder and neck on the left side. I hate this pain. I get it when I eat too fast, or too big of a bite. The first time I got it was when I got stuck.

So, it's my slow down, take smaller bites, or stop eating signal, but it stinks because it can be so painful.

I find that it goes away after about an hour or so.

Good luck, and remember, eat slow, small bites.

Take care.

Sue

Whoa....I am so happy to hear this! Not happy to hear that YOU are both having this pain! But, I've been having it since the beginning....after I eat. Just had my first fill on Monday and have been on mushies since then. Last night, I had a little mashed potatoes with gravy and suffered significantly afterwards. Perhaps I ate too much or too fast. I really have to start being more aware!

Well, at least I'm not alone.....I'm always thinking I have a tumor or am *this* close to a heartattack!

I get that pain too, but it also goes right into the back of my throat till I'm literally grabbing at my neck in pain.

I was banded Aug. 15 and I have the pain too. It usually happens if I eat or drink too fast. The Dr. said it is a trigger point like what Sue said. It hasn't been happening as much lately, so maybe it will go away forever I hope. Sometimes I apply heat or use my tens unit to stop the pain, or I should say take my mind off of it. The pain is so sharp it is unbearable at times. Good luck to all.

Count me in too! It's not too terrible, but it is noticable. I thought I was sleeping funny on it, or that I had pulled a muscle, but it comes and goes around eating time, and I've never had it before surgery...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
