New sleeve issues

Recommended Posts

I got sleeved and a hiatal repair earlier this week. The procedure went smoothly, though in recovery I had a very abnormal level of pain (seemed like gas pain). They had to double my pain meds afterwards on the floor because of continued pain. I walked a ton (probably a mile+ in the hospital), but it didn't seem to help. They kept me an extra night after I was unable to get any Protein Shake down and had dry heaves and spasms. I did better today getting in almost 30 OZ and 1 Protein shake and went home. Now I'm in really sever pain even on the pain meds, any type of drink burns as it goes down and then gets stuck for a minute, once it's in the stomach it hurts and there is immediate cramping. Taking pills is a real challenge and I can no longer drink.

Anyone have anything similar? If so what did you do? I'm afraid I'm going to end up back in the hospital. This pain is terrible and the pain pills aren't touching it.

I would contact your doc office and let them know you are experiencing this at home especially if your pain meds are not working. They may be able to give you something else.

Thanks. Ended back up in the hospital due to a really high heart rate. Got behind on pain meds, which led to a spiral of other things. Should be ok, but will spend a couple nights in the hospital. For other folks about to go home or get the surgery don't get behind on pain meds even a little!

Glad you're back at the hospital. I'm sure everything will be ok....just a little harder on some. Was going to mention that a great way to take pills in the beginning is to crush them and put them on a little spoonful of sugar free Kool Whip. Goes down very easy.

I totally agree, it's hard to catch up once you're in pain again. Hope you're more comfortable now.

Oh no!! Its called "Staying on top of the pain". It's an actual term used in medical practices and what it means is that if you allow the pain meds to wear off and pain to really settle in, it's hard to block it again without heavier drugs. Good luck, I am so sorry you went through so much trauma!!!

I had the Hiatal hernia repair as well (and my gallbladder out too) I was in pain for 3 weeks. It takes a while for some of us. Others? They don't ever need the pain meds. lol!

Good luck!! I hope this process goes more smoothly for you from here on out. With the Hiatal hernia repair I felt like I had an alien at the bottom of my throat for about 6 weeks. Also, I had hiccups a lot if I ate/drank too fast. That was very painful.

OH! And mix benefiber or Miralax in your Water - for at LEAST 6 months. The LAST Thing you want is to be constipated. Just do it, trust me. I ended up so injured I couldn't walk for 3 days after being constipated and then taking a laxative. I reinjured myself and it was ugly.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
