Advice needed

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I had a gastric band for 8 years and I had to have it removed in September due to a port infection. I am hoping to have a gastric sleeve done, but it could be a while before I am accepted into the program due to long wait times.

Since my band removal, I have followed a healthy diet (better than I didn't while having the band as I can now eat proper Protein and vegetables!). But my body has metabolically repented and have gained 50lbs in 2.5months despite my best efforts.

For those who were waiting for their sleeve..... what did you do before your surgery to keep your weight in check? Is there any special diet you followed or found useful? Weight watchers, low carb, Keto, etc? I could really use some help.

I consumed fewer calories than I burned. Find your TDEE with an online calculator and eat less than that number.

Before my surgery I ate low carb..high Protein and sugar free foods. I lost 90 on my own in about 8 months. You just have to read your labels and Portion Control.

Wowsers.. that's almost a pound a day! Were you not getting your vitamins/protein requirements with the band in?

Start working toward nutrition goals, without eating extras.

60-80g Protein

35+g fat

75g -100g carbs

Aim for about 1200 calories, which will stop the weight gain, and probably get the scale moving back down. If you DON'T lose weight on 1200 calories, then you need to get your thyroid checked.

Here is a sample menu:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese and 1 whole piece of fruit (apple, orange, banana, etc.)

Lunch: 1 egg and 1 cup pinto Beans and 2 T. salsa

Dinner: 4 oz protein and 1 cup veggies (green beans, spinach, etc), and 1 cup white or sweet potatoes with a pat of butter.

optional: 1-2 cups lowfat milk

If you are still hungry, concentrate on non-starchy veggies.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
