I'm 5 days post op and wondering how much I should be walking or what most are doing? Docs just say walk as much as you can. In the hospital I was talking laps every 1.5 - 2 hours. At home I've been taking one or two longer walks. Do you think it's better to do many short walks vs. 20 - 25 min walk at once. Today I did 7000 steps with about half at home just moving around.

Just my experience. I didn't walk enough post op and got some really bad muscle tightness in my legs, which ended up putting pressure on my sciatic nerve and ultimately was far far more painful than anything from the surgery. And of course the treatment is muscle relaxers and nsaids neither of which you can have immediately post op.

If I could do it again, I'd walk at least an hour a day.

Honestly I doubt there's much a difference between many or a few walks as long as they're reasonably spread out.

I'm 6 days postop and I've been walking almost 3 miles per day (1 hour) since day 3 postop. It has really helped to relieve soreness in my abdominal muscles.

I think that the general answer that you will get from most programs is to go as much as can comfortably do, which can vary widely person to person. Generally it would also be better to spread it out during the day - do 5 minutes each hour rather than a half hour or hour all at once and then nothing the rest of the day. The main idea is to get and keep things moving, keeping the circulation going.

The main reason you are walking after surgery is to avoid blood clots in your legs and help break up any gas trapped in your abdominal cavity. You might feel better if you take frequent, smaller walks - but as long as you are moving, you're doing fine! :)

Thanks everyone. I only up to 2.5 miles a day. I’ve been tired and it’s getting cold here. I’m feeling pretty decent know one week post op so will get out thEre more. Maybe take lasts at local mall although my trip to target earlier this week exhausted me.

Walk every hour to get rid of the gas pressure

What I really need to know - how soon can I go to a spin class and start weight training???

I got cleared for all exercise around 6 weeks. If you were sleeved 2/11/17, you should have gotten the ok way before now!

Just guessing based on the username, I'm thinking that's Nov 2, not Feb 11.

Thank you all - you’re right, I made a mistake - I meant 2 DECEMBER! Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

So should I wait til 6 weeks for weights and spin?

I am three weeks post op, and have been cleared for running and swimming (just in time for beach holiday). Check with your Dr, but spin classes should be fine within a week or two.

I will be cleared for weights next week.

Sorry, I saw "2/11" and I thought WTH?! LOL! Yes, I think you should wait until 6 weeks. It's probably a good idea to wait until after you have a follow-up appointment, and your doc checks your incisions.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
