Vegetarian/ Transitioning Vegan. 2 1/2 month Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Hey! I’m currently 2 and a half months Post-op and I’m a vegetarian. My nutritionist says it’s a bad time to become vegan because I need the “protein” from meat. I’m 67lbs down from my highest weight and 47lbs down from my surgery weight. What are your opinions ? Any WLS vegetarians/ vegans?

i would argue that any time is a bad time to go vegan.

read "The Vegetarian Myth" by former vegan Lierre Keith for a good primer on this fraudulent philosophy.

You will find that it is very hard to get enough Protein as a vegan. I'm sure it can be done, but it is much easier as a vegetarian as you might know. I was a vegetarian for 3 years, and found it easy to get my protein in, but I ate 5-7 cups of food per sitting then. I think I could do it now on a cup of food as long as I supplement with eggs, mock meats, and Protein Shakes.

I will make it back there soon enough. I loved the benefits of being a vegetarian. I recovered super fast from workouts, and my nagging shoulder injury healed within a few months of switching over.

There are many threads here devoted to vegetarians/vegans. Do a search.

I'm having the same struggle. I can't even cheat if I wanted to due to dairy allergies. The one thing that saved me in pre op were Soylent shakes. They are really good, but I'm tired of them. Surgery for me is in about an hour....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
