GOALS and INCENTIVES

Recommended Posts

Anyone want to share your mini-goals and if you do incentives?

For instance: My birthday was last week. I have a friend who was banded in February and her birthday was last month. We took $1 for every pound we'd lost and went shopping at a thrift store for new clothes. (I spent $3 over and got $35 worth.)

Here are some of my mini goals:

By Thanksgiving: Original goal was to be at 239. I'm needing to adjust this. I'd be happy at being at 245 by Thanksgiving. That's just about 6.2 pounds in 4 weeks. With a total of 38 pounds lost.

By Christmas: I'd like to be 45 down, which would be 238.

Here are my incentives:

40 pound loss: spa pedicure

50 pound loss: $50 clothes shopping spree

60 pound loss: I've never had a facial before...why not?

75 pound loss: mini-me night...dinner/movie with hubby or friends?

85 pound loss: $35 clothes shopping spree

100 pound loss: 1/2 day at the spa

Goal: Trip...where? haven't decided yet...

I need to reconsider my main goal weight...the BMI is still considered Overweight...but I don't know whether I can get lower. I was 150 in High School. (Size 12 at least)

Hey BeckieT! You're all over posting! Lol.

OK, I do have goals and incentives!!

I really wanna be at 315 by Thanksgiving - though that would make me have to lose about 12 pounds in the next 4 weeks... (and is lower than the Labor day to Thanksgiving day goal I set on that thread!)

By New Years I want to be 299... (I am 327 this morning) so that would put me at needing to lose 28 pounds in 10 weeks.

Both of these goals are do-able if I lose 3 pounds a week... which will take alot of hard work!!

My BIG incentive is that in March (when I get my income tax money) I REALLY wan to be at about 275 by then and I will buy myself a GOOD Road Bike! (The one I'm kinda drooling over is about $900!!!)

And I guess incentives for the 315 and 299 goals will be new clothes - cause I really need jeans that FIT... and i need new work uniforms... people at work are finally starting to notice (and ask questions!)

#1 165 by Thanksgiving

#2 150 by February 23rd (my birthday)

#3 120 by June 25th (bandiversary)

I haven't worked out all the rewards. I'm thinking a spa treatment for my birthday if I get the goal. And, I KNOW that I am going to buy a fabulous leather coat when I get to goal!!! I've asked all family members that all gifts be in clothing or money to buy clothing!! I'm gonna be naked soon - lol

#1 - 213 by Thanksgiving (original goal 218)

#2 - 205 by Christmas

#3 - 185 by March 1 (Disney!!)

#4 - 155 by August 2 (my birthday...FIT and 40!)

Since most of my goals are set to days that are actually rewarding in and of themselves...I think my main incentive is new smaller clothes and seeing friends and relatives I haven't seen in months and their mouths dropping!!!

Wonderful!! Yes, those dates are on rewarding days...but it makes it all the more fun! And clothes are a perfect incentive, I think. Way to go!!

Wombat, get some clothes!!! : ) But I know how you feel. It feels like I've had so many clothes ready to just fall off...and good advice for the what to suggest for gifts!

Suzzzie, awesome incentives and goals! You can do it!! 3 pounds a week is attainable and a healthy goal. Wow! Sounds like a great bike! Clothes, clothes clothes! For me, that's the top incentive...although spa treatments are a very, very close second. Have you been to Wear House of Fashions over in Platte City? It's a second-hand store...but with great clothes! I think I even saw some nurse's uniforms.

I forgot to mention that for my birthday my mom took me on a shopping spree at Kohl's. I love their Clearance wracks. She gave me a $40 limit and I was able to get 3 blouses, 2 skirts, and a necklace and earings.

I keep teasing my family that when I get down to the weight I should be, they need to nominate me for What Not To Wear so I can get a new wardrobe without making Jody and I go bankrupt. ;)

Nothing at Kohls fits me. Boo! But it WILL soon. Lol.

Never heard of that place in Platte City! I haven't been up that way in probably a couple of years, but I will give it a shot! Do they have lots of Plus size clothes? Thats usually the thing I find at places like that, nothing in MY size!

Beckiet - I get clothes on a regular basis. I didn't include it in my incentives because I have to have them. That's why I don't have more "mini" goals on there.

I'm going to raid mom's closet today - she has clothes from 8 - 18; I'm down to 14 and they are already getting baggy (woohoo!! what a problem to have!) Menopause has really caused her a lot of weight gain. I had to promise not to get rid of them when they don't fit me anymore :(

Anyone else need to resize their jewelry yet?

I had promised myself when I got below 220 that I would go have acrylic nails put on. I used to have them, but haven't for years.

Well am 3 lbs. under that and still haven't made and appointment. I am going to get busy and call today.

After all, I deserve it.

Hmmm....

By Thanksgiving....I'd like to be in the 170's. Maybe time for new jeans at that point.

I haven't really set any mini goals, which I know I should do.

Long term though, a friend of mine and I are going to train for the Army 10 miler and the Marine Corps Marathon. I figured I have a year out so it should be reasonable. I've always wanted to run them. Also found a plan online that spells out what you need to be running each week. I think if I accomplish both of them, I'm going to treat myself to one of those $500 spa day things. :)

Beckie:

I have rewards set up for myself, but not specific dates, just set them to specific pound goals.

For instance, I told myself I would get myself a great MP3 player for walking when I lose 50 pounds. I attained that goal in August and got myself a great Zune by Dell. Love it, love it, love it. I walk 5 miles per day, so it's great walking company.

My next reward will be when I lose 100 pounds. I'd like to pay a personal trainer for some exercise help when I reach the 100 pound mark. At this pace, I should hit that goal late December, or January.

That personal trainer should help me getting to the next goal. When I reach 150 pounds I'd like to take my Daughter on a cruise to Bermuda from Boston, so I'd like to have that happen next summer, but that will be a stretch. I'll have to see how that goes, because if it happens late next year we'll have to go on some other cruise because the Boston to Bermuda stops running in the early Fall.

Then, when I hit my goal weight I'm going to spend some of my retirement money on a Tummy Tuck. I'm sure that by the time I lose 164 pounds I'll be needing one!

It sure makes it more fun if we can reward ourselves for the milestones along the way. It seems so difficult to think about the long-run, but to think about it in 25 and 50 pound increments it seems more attainable.

Good luck, and happy rewards and goal attainment to you!

Sue

I've never been one for mini goals - they make sense to me, but for me, I could never take my eyes off the bigger picture. I always look at a whole job, not at tasks. Cant help it.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
