Congrats!! What was your longest stall? I'm almost at 5 months post op and I've been in a stall for like a month...

Congratulations!! It’s normal for the hair to come out. Mine started at three months out. It grew back thicker which is a good thing. I take all my Vitamins and Biotin too. Some people get lucky and don’t have Hair loss.

When you have a stall, your body is playing catch up. Don’t stress over it. It’s normal too. If you continue to stall try increasing your Protein. I had do this. Hope this helps

Thank you so much for your reply! It’s comforting to know that! Do you increase your intake in protein with shakes or just eating things with protein? I did start trying to increase my protein with an extra shake. I felt like I was getting about 64g of protein a day, which is what my Dr suggested.

Did you lose your hair? I’m so scared... my hair had been really growing nicely, and now all of a sudden every time I run my fingers through my hair I have several strands between my fingers. My hair was looking so pretty and long, and I just don’t want it falling out. I have been using Nioxin Shampoo since before surgery (gastric sleeve and hiatal hernia repair), which was on 9/11/17, and I’ve also been taking Biotin, zinc, B12, and also I take my multi Vitamin twice daily and Calcium, as well as my Iron, omprazole, and also started taking a collagen to help with hair, skin, joints, etc. The collagen is supposed to help hair, but it’s been since I started taking it that I’ve noticed my hair coming loose. [emoji20] Also, I’ve been at a standstill for about two weeks with no weight loss. Please help! Thank you!! Congratulations on your weight loss!!

I had surgery Jan this year. Almost a year out. Yes you will loose your hair but it's temporary. I have long thick, curly hair and I am horrified BUT you MUST Buy Keranique !! Monthly subscription l! Not kidding after the first month my hair was so full! Couldn't tell I had Hair loss and as the months go on my hair will start to grow back and it is two months and I see the difference. I went to a dermatologist and he said don't worry it will grow back.

I also take Sugarbear gummy vitamins. So tasty and proven results. It's for hair.

I am almost a year out and I am down from 230 to 142!!!! After about the 7 month I was able to eat a little more but get full fast! I am sooo glad I did it. I feel so healthy and thin! I struggle making good choices at times and my old habits come back sometimes but I just think back and look at fat pictures and I set myself straight. I never want to be that way again. I look at a friend who had surgery two years and she gained a lot of weight. I so don't want that.

I am one year out as of November 28th, and Hair loss is a product of not enough protien. Add more protien into your diet and your hair, nails and eyes will become stronger than ever.

pre-op: 314
cw: 213

Congratulations on a year and a wonderful weight loss. Dec 18 will be mine. Could you recommend a Protein Shake. There are so many to choose from.

Before surgery I was drinking Unjury or Ensure Protein. After surgery my taste changed. I couldn’t drink either one. After a couple of months I found Lean 25 at GNC. I love them. I got my sister hooked on them too

I had to increase my protein with food. For three months after surgery I couldn’t stomach the shakes. They all tasted chalky to me

You are very welcome. My doctor suggested 60g for me

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
