Hey all. I went to the store today and saw all the tables filled with pastries, pies, cakes, and cupcakes. Not to mention the carts full of food for the meal. I do not regret getting my surgery on the 15th, but I am experiencing a sharp burning pain to the left of my belly button and I am afraid I wont be able to go Black Friday shopping! I know how shallow that sounds, but since I dont really have any family near me or parents who have passed, I have really focused my excitements on Black Fridays. But now I may have to give this up this year too! I had a mini cry fest today, now I'm just bummed. But can anyone confirm this deep burning sharp pain is normal? I did text my surgeon who said its because its the largest incision and takes time to heal. I lifted my chubby frenchie to give him a bath and I'm afraid I may have pulled or torn something! Anyway thanks for reading my multi vent!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone. God Bless

I had a pain above/near my belly button when I overdid it (maybe not even lifting, but if I did too much around the house and my first day back to work even though I don't have an active job). It's the only incision I ever felt and in previous laparoscopic procedures, I had the same issue. I'm so sorry for how you're feeling. Unlike you, I HAVE regretted my surgery more than once ;) and it was just three weeks before yours.

I debated whether or not we should go see my family for the holidays and I eventually decided to come. My husband says I have been really difficult and moody and he's right but I don't feel like anything is wrong...I'm not sure what it is. All that is to say this is an emotional journey as much as a physical one and even though mine feels less emotional than some, it's pretty tough at times.

I am sure your surgeon was right in his assessment. I think you should go shopping and enjoy Black Friday! More than that, I hope your sadness is short-lived. I'm so sorry you're going through this. You did such a great thing for yourself and I hope you can find comfort/satisfaction in that.

I feel the EXACT same way. I was sleeved 11/9 and I have the same burning sensation in the same spot. Then I twisted wrong last week and have so much pain between my rib and hip on the same side. I called my surgical team today and my nurse practitioner said it's all normal. We just had major abdominal surgery and healing is going to be painful.

I had a cry-fest today, too. Not because I'm missing out on food. But the socializing aspect. Everyone's drinking and having a great time around the holiday and I just feel so alone and sad. I don't want to sit at a bar and drink Water when I'm in pain and can't enjoy myself. I do not regret my surgery, I just wish I could heal faster so I feel more of a normal person. Getting a little depressed but I know this is temporary. I start pureed foods tomorrow and I don't even care. I'd rather just stick to water :(

This is why I love this site. I dont feel alone when I find people like me! I am going to spend the day on my recliner smelling turkey cooking all day and sipping a Protein Shake. But I know that a year from now I will feel so much better! I mean who doesn't want to look better? But for me it was to feel better. I have had several back issues, knee issues and my blood pressure started to elevate. My mom passed away at 63 due to all her weight related issues. I am the thinnest one in my family at 234. I'm glad you get to start puréed foods tomorrow because you will start to feel normal somewhat. I'm going to quote my best friend when she said to me RELAX and HEAL. Take the time to let your body heal. Have a great thanksgiving and today I am most thankful for my friends here in this site, you. :)

That pain is very normal. I had the same burning pain until around week three. Hang in there. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Think about this - if you had another type of surgery during this time you would be feeling much kinder to yourself. So relax and be kind, do what you can.

If you can just participate a little you will feel a part of it and try to smile. Get dressed up a little, put on some perfume, watch the parade!!!!

(Yes that belly button incision has some extra inside stitches too and the stomach was 'tugged' out of the incision. Mine rubbed against my waistband and an interior stitch worked its way to the surface and drove me nuts)

Not to be super annoying but a young family in my area died in a house fire tuesday - mercy - and here we are alive and doing okay, we will have many other holidays.

Blessings to you all.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
