Wahooooo! I Finally Have a Surgery Type

Recommended Posts

I'm having the RNY. Gosh, I've spent the last 3 months doing the testing and waiting for opinions to come in about whether or not I'm a candidate for any surgery at all. Now the real fun begins--the waiting and the countdown. Insurance is now submitted. *gulp*

(Sorry, this post began as a November Surgery post but I just found the pre-existing thread! Derp! My bad!)

TY sweetie! :780_sparkling_heart:

It's so weird, I'm eating 1500 cals/day per the surgeon. She wouldn't let me go down in cals now prior to surgery and gosh...I want to gnaw my arm off. I've now been in the 230s for close to 2 months and I still have 2.4lbs to go before seeing a new decade. I'm just so afraid I will fail again (as I have so many times before)!

And look at you! Can you believe you are so close to goal? You only have 3.9lbs left to cross the 100lb threshold! Congrats!!!

You are a rock star. And you now have the end in sight. You can do this. If you can't go down in kcal, see if you can do something about burning a little more. It might help. Or maybe even upping your kcal for a few days before going back down might help.

I know, so close. And 9.6 from goal and normal bmi. I'm hoping I can do it before Christmas, but it might be too much to ask. That's okay though. It would be the best Christmas gift to myself though.

TY! :) I will try it. I don't think she is really interested in my losing any more right now? She kept saying that I will lose a lot on the 2 week pre-op diet and that day of surgery I MUST be above 35BMI still? I may have got that wrong though. I have 2 more official weigh ins at the first of November. *sigh* Very stressful!

Your stats are so amazing and inspirational! I'm betting you will be at your goal by Christmas! Best. Christmas. Ever! But honestly, you look so amazing right now. Do you have any extra skin? Cuz you look so toned! How many cals do you average per day now?

Well, I know there is a bottom limit, so if she has mentioned it, make sure you stay above. For me it was above 40 when I went to get approved for the surgery. After that I could drop as much as I wanted. But I got approved 13 days (my surgery got moved up by 4 weeks because there was an opening and everything but insurance was approved at that time.)

Thank you. My motivation has always been to prevent another back surgery, which I did. Now I need to find another motivation to pull myself together a little. I have been slipping a little lately.

I do have extra skin. It might not look like ut, but it's there, especially on my legs. I know I have been lucky, considering I'm close to 100lbs and have no overhang. I'm up and down on my kcal, I have also been up and down with tracking lately. I'm anywhere from 1100-1600 I think. Today is a high day of over 1500 if I eat everything I have put into myfitnesspal.

I believe one key to my success is that I meal prep. It gives me less options to stray into eating unhealthy stuff.

So do you know when you'll have surgery?

Yes, for you I think it time to do the "dig deep" thing so you do find a motivator. What are your goals--short term in the coming year?

I think it's probably good for cals to fluctuate a little bit? And it looks like your body is doing that normal "approach maintenance" weight thing. Congrats on maintaining between 1100-1600! That's totally do-able! I feel like I'm eating SO much food on 1500 cals/day.

I agree on the meal prep part. And pre-planning the day. I do that the day before so that I know the plan to get to the end of the day.

We're guessing for insurance approval in 2-3weeks. That would probably place my surgery either on November 28 or December 5.

Short term is reaching goal by Christmas. Long term is drop fat % before I go on vacation/shopping trip to Florida in March. I can't wait. (I'm in Austria) I can't run, but I like racing, so I'll do a couple of Nordic walking races. Also, get stronger for my back.

And yeah, I think fluctuation is good. NUT says I need more food because I burn so much, so I'm doing okay. Sometimes 1500 feels like so much food, other times I'm wondering how so little food can have so much kcal lol.

Fail to plan is like planning to fail, and it's so true.

Exciting. It's going to be here before you know it. Just stick to what you have been doing.

Yes, fave quote!

Isn't it crazy how when you actually eat "good" food, the volume of that food is cra cra? You will have so much fun in FL! The beaches are so beautiful--perfectly white sand.

My German teacher was from Austria! :)

Make sure to visit the west coast of Florida. The gulf is so much nicer than the Atlantic. (IMHO). Hopefully the hurricane damage will be sorted.

@Berry78 TY sweetie! It's so fun, I feel like I found a home. It's like I want to shout, "Obesity! Set my people free!" *snort*

(Of course, I'm really shouting at my tummy to STFU and quit whining about being hungry. I'm fasting until after my doc appointment in case he wants labs.)

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
