Vegan foods for days 3-8 after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I'm 4 days post gastric bypass surgery and wondering if anyone has any ideas for VEGAN (not vegetarian) foods to include in my diet. Preferably something I can buy at a 'regular' store like Meijer and requires very little prep. I have the Cream of Wheat, oatmeal, grits, veggie broth, and a very nice carrot ginger Soup. (SO disappointed I can't find sugar free vegan pudding...) Thanks!

Hi! I was still on liquids at that point, but my second week I did a lot of organic baby food. They have a ton of flavors and you don't have to prep anything! Also it's a great way to get actual nutrition in your body during that time. I also did mashed potatoes made with broth, but I personally hate oatmeal and grits do I didn't do that. So yeah, basically a lot of purees! The week after that I made a batch of tofu scramble with a little bit of Daiya, you might be able to do that if you're able to do oatmeal at this point.

Have you ever tried to make your own pudding? This would have been too rich for me at that point, but check it out--it might work for you!

And in the beginning you cannot possibly get enough Protein to meet requirements on those foods - get some Protein Shakes. And do the vegan thing when you are healed.

My NUT said you really can't be vegan on this, especially in the first month or so while you are healing.

Good luck though, hope you do okay.

You are not going to get much protein at all from ANY food in the first few weeks. That is why the docs recommend shakes to supplement.

The idea that you simply must eat animal products is ridiculous.

Well I believe in following what the surgeon/NUT says to do - so everyone should just go ask the experts what to consume after surgery instead of the 'commoners'.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I was required to do a Protein Shake for two weeks since we couldn't eat really more than a tablespoon or two of food. I made my own to begin with mixing hemp Protein Powder and macadamia milk, but later I got sick of that and bought some vegan Orgain shakes. I totally 100% despise shakes, so I can't say it was good, but I could at least choke it down without vomiting!

I use Arbonne's Protein Shake mix - it's 100% Vegan and it's really good. Google Arbonne for someone close to you that sells it and they would be happy to give you a couple samples to try before you buy. Also, this is a bit pricy but so worth it when you don't have alot of options - Ruby Rockets sells Vegan pops and yogurt made with fruit and veggies. They even have a chocolate one. So good. https://www.rubyrockets.com/collections/all

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
