Wondering if any esg patients can tell me what restriction should feel like when starting purée diet? I had a weetbix and milk and later a scrambled egg today be really didn't feel restricted or "full" at any time? Is this normal? I have been compliant with fluids only for 2.5 weeks with no vomiting so assume I have not stretched anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 😬

I'm still pre op, but its good to know that we all feel differently. Perhaps you've healed very quickly?

@Melesg

liquids, go smoothly down the hatch. they will not give

you any restriction - doc never put me on puree' - (my request)

not sure about puree/and restriction:wacko:

when you start gradually eating solids - you should/will

feel that restriction we love

congrats on your early success

continued good luck

I feel restriction only on heavy Proteins like chicken, tuna fish, but only if I go over 4-5 oz. In my case, I don't feel it immediately, it takes more than half an hour to feel it, therefore I have to be careful. Certain fruits like pineapple also weights on my stomach. I wouldn't describe it as painful, but more like pressure.

I am the same way!!! I really need to quit before I ever feel any restriction. If I don't I am so miserable!!! It is like if I take 1 bite to much I am doomed. LOL

Have you found the restriction enough to lose a sufficient amount of weight?

@Melesg

you are asking me a question that happened almost 6 years ago!!??? LOL

i'm lucky to remember something that happened almost 6 minutes ago:lol:

i was eating solids at around 5-6 weeks PO. it's a great idea keeping a log/record

book. daily basis, write things down related to your WLS. ie problems, successes -

and in betweens. very helpful. Then, 6 years from now when a cutie petuti newbie

asks you a question, just go back to your log. Or of course, just ask me LOL

keep up the good job

good luck bud

Wow, six years ago! Has the esg been successful long term for you?

What I notice is that the "restriction" is delayed more for me in the puréed phase. I noticed that if I don't take enough time between bites and eat slow, I can get uncomfortable 20-30 minutes later. Happened to me twice and I finally figured out what was going on. I'm about 5 days into the puréed stage.

Thanks JimL. We are at about the same stage post procedure by the sounds of things.

@Melesg

short answer - YES

reached my GOAL (105 lbs down).

couple years PO, still had some

restriction but not as much as when

i was initially sleeved. for me (and

some others too) restriction gets

less and less through the years:(

in my case, (almost 6 years) it's more

of a mental thing. i continue to try and follow

all the rules i learned as a newbie.

to me, Water rules are the most important.

protein, carbs, moderation, being

aware of your portions.

You work with your sleeve (or whichever

WLS you had) - and it will work with/

for you. BUT - YOU are in charge.

good luck bud

Not at all Kathy - sleeve patients seem to have the most similar experience to esg pts from what I see so the advice is very welcome

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
