I am home, I was sleeved on 8/31. I stayed one night, my main complaint was gas pain and nausea. I was up movin around 2-3 hours post op. My biggest concern now is nausea and feeling soooo weak. I'm scared I'm not getting enough fluids. I peeing a normal amount but was pumped full of fluids yesterday. I feel like I could just sleep all day. Im sore this is all normal but just wanted to hear other people's experiences.

The second day is about rest and fluids. Just try to keep sipping.

I was similar to you, up and walking fairly quickly. pain in one site more than the others and could not lie on my sides at all. I did not feel the need to pee at all and they kept reminding me to go do that. Ad some sugar free cordial to you Water, it is much easier to stomach than plain water. I slept a lot and rested a lot until about half way through the second week. Just keep on sipping.

I was worried about the pain too. Anything I ate or drank felt like a knife in my chest. It went away in a week. Now I only have pain if I eat too much.

Congrats to all that have been sleeved and made it through the first week. I am still 10 weeks out or so due to my surgeons busy schedule and getting in for my pre-op appointment. I'm with Kaiser in Northern California and I must say that their Bariatric Department is wonderful.

I'm not too worried about the pain as I have had 2 MAJOR abdominal surgeries and did pretty dang good with the pain. I did it with very little narcotic pain meds, mostly Tylenol.

For me my biggest concern is getting in all the Water that is needed the first week. Any suggestions on how you all accomplished that.

Again, congratulations to everyone!

For the people that recommended sugar free ice pops how soon did you start that? I was sleeved 9/5, only have pains in my chest but I'm assuming that's from gas. I noticed the diet Snapple is too sweet

I started them that day. My surgeon had me start Clear Liquids right away. I couldn't stomach anything but Water for the first 2 days. Now, I'm on full liquids and doing great!

I was the same - I couldn't really stomach anything till day three - and anything cold would make my stomach cramp like crazy. Day 6 (yesterday) I was able to drink cold proten shakes and sugar free pops have been heaven!! I have 5 kids and a husband that love icecream, so it's nice being able to have something with them! :)

Did you guys have your incisions stapled? How are they doing?

At the hospital I was up and walking a lot and came home and all I want to do is sleep. I do get random burts of nausea. There's a lot of pills to remember to take, acid reflux pill, the pill that prevents nausea and the pain pill. The vitamin patches are my saving grace. I put it on at 7pm and take it off 7 am. I'm day 3 post op and hopefully find a swing in things. Sunday I can introduce Protein Shakes !!!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
