Federal Fep BC/BS Delaware - Approval in less than 6 hours!

Recommended Posts

My Dr's office submitted my packet to FEP BD/BS Delaware around noon. I received a phone call from My Dr's office at Noon today saying that last night they received my APPROVAL. I was approved in less than 6 Hours!!! She called them first thing this AM to confirm that I was approved, and was told that it was correct, It's a Go! She scheduled my FINAL surgical clearance with my surgeon for 2 weeks from today!

I am still sitting here in shock 2 hours later. My goose bumps are still here! I was all prepared for a fight... have a Primary care appointment set up for the appeal, I have requested all my medical records to send to Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy/ Weight Loss Appeals in California - I was going to hire them for the appeal. Now none of that is necessary.

I'm scared, nervous, happy.... So many emotions. I am so ready to take the next step.

I wish everyone a speedy approval process. IF you are denied, definitely consider Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy/ Weight Loss Appeals in California - they have a 90+% success rate of overturning denials. It's free to talk to them :) For me, it would have been money well spent.

congrats .... mine is 10/19 I start pre-op 10/3

Yes cant wait to get under 200lbs im ready for whatever is coming my way..

For 6 months I had to maintain my weight because the only thing that qualified me was my BMI which was 40.. that was the hardest thing because I couldn't afford to lose too much weight and I couldn't afford to gain too much weight lol....

I was in the same boat. I had a 7 Lb window that I HAD to maintain - that was the hardest thing to do. I was lucky that Federal BC/BS only required 3 months of Nutrition and what not opposed to other company's 6 months.

But we've made it! Trying to stay in my window, I really tried to watch what I ate, which I always try to do. Since I was approved, I was now told that I can relax - just don't go crazy. I another night of all you can eat crabs, a steak dinner with all the sides, another night at a Fondue restaurant, another visit to a winery, and then to a brewery. That's it - Not that I won't have these again, well not anytime soon , nor in this quantity. Just in case my taste buds change and don't like these things anymore, I want one last taste.

Did you have to track what you were eating for a week to see how much Protein you were eating? I could not believe how little I consuming! What an eye-opener! Someone had told me to freeze Protein Drinks - Like Muscle Milk/ Premier Protein to have high protein popsicle Snacks. I guess you could do that with Greek Yogurt too.

I think tonight it will really hit me.....

What is your Pre-Op Diet? Mine is something called Robard - it's 4 Meal Replacement "Things" a day. Shakes/drinks/soups/pudding.... and can drink Gatorade, low sodium broth as fillers

That is awesome!!! I have federal blue cross blue shield and was denied about 2.5 years ago because my BMI dropped below 35 the year prior when I was on prescription weight loss pills. This time it took about 10 days to get an approval, probably because poor BCBS had to go through past medical records to verify my weight and the medical records are enormous. I was ready to put up a fight also. my 17 year old daughter's idea was "can't you just send them a picture of your body so they see that you need this?" HAHA! I was getting ready to submit a nude photo and hash out all my medical issues. I might not weigh as much as some but I am short and this body rejects me being heavy. I could literally weigh 100 pounds and still be within in my weight range so an extra 89 pounds on my small frame has not been kind to me. I have not been able to keep weight off long enough to reverse my medical conditions and I sure hope this is a tool I can use to maintain a healthier lifestyle. In fact, I know it will be a good tool because I am determined.

My surgery is 9/18, so pretty close to yours! I have been trying to MAINTAIN my weight also, they did not say anything about it going up but the dr said they didnt want it to go down much or I would be denied. In a way I am sick of eating to keep up five pounds and in another way I am starting to feel that I want things I know I should not have but know I will have to give up.

Congratulations! It is amazing how after all of the waiting everything starts moving at lightening speed! I am in the same boat having to maintain my weight (I couldn't lose more than a pound) or I would dip below 35...for 6 months. My last weigh in is Tuesday so hopefully I will get an answer soon. I have Anthem CA and they have 15 business days to respond. I have also been holed up in my house for the past week with Hurricane Harvey so I am hoping I didn't GAIN weight on my last weigh in. Going to have to hit that Smooth Moves tea on Monday!!

Good luck and let us know how it is going :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
