I regret this surgery

Recommended Posts

Do you feel better today? I do, which really makes me think there is some (lots) of hormonal involvement. Still hungry faster than I want ...maybe because it is all fluids...but yesterday your post was just what I needed [emoji2]

I do feel better today and I agree there was probably a lot of hormones involved. I'm glad this post was what you needed because I think a lot of people needed too. It's not fair to be silence for how you're feeling and it's real all of this is real. So thank you

Obviously you're the only miserable one and if you did know me in real life I would tell you the same thing. You're the only negative person here. You just need a voice to say something because you felt entitle. Again you're rude you're annoying you on my **** bye b***h

Wow not only are you miserable but you have trouble comprehending as well. I'm actually quite comfortable. I have friends and family who care and support me. I'm unsure how you get that I feel entitled, but whatever. I realize that you are not comprehending and interpreting anything that doesn't say, get out if your pity potty and take care of what you need to take care. Especially resorting to calling people obscene names just really shows you in a juvenile, no childish manner. However, if disagreeing with how you have handled yourself and not feeling sorry for you makes me a b****, I'll take that because quite frankly I'd rather be that than and be accountable for how I conduct myself than sit and stew and yes, whine. Be well. Feel free to perseverate and craft a response that again will continue to confirm the necessity of some form of mental health intervention. I truly do hope that there are services in your area.

But you're still talking that is what is so confusing. You still have the energy to continue to be negative towards me. From the beginning you started the negative thoughts but because I stand up for myself now I have "mental issues" I am "miserable" you hope I stay lonely etc. be the smart person you are and just stop. No one is going to punk me into shutting up ever. Like I told my friend we can go all day I have time

It has been SO much harder than I thought!!

It is sooo hard! Sometimes I feel bad because I go to god complaining about stuff that was never really difficult and now I'm facing one of the biggest challenges in my life and I need him now more than ever. Hang in there and I will hang in there with you

You're still early in the process, give it time. I'm at 12 weeks today , and I would do it again and heartbeat. My first month was rough. I was uncomfortable, I end up getting pneumonia and week 2 and the heartburn was merciless. Now, the heartburn can still be a problem but It's much better.

Just keep going...

I regretted the surgery too during my first few months post op. I was pissed off at myself for making this decision. Had a few complications and needed a second surgery. Blah blah blah

Told my surgeon I regretted having the surgery and he told me he was going to ask me the same question in 3 months.

He was right. After the weight start falling off in bulk and surgery healed I began to feel awesome. I'd not felt that good in 30+ years. That charged me up and made me stick to the program better than I thought I could.

Now almost 4 years later I remain at my goal weight after losing 150+ pounds.

Chin up. Better days are ahead.

Andrew

Hello Andrew,
What kind of complications did you have? Why a second surgery was needed? I had a Gastric Sleeve surgery on August 9th. I was doing great so far, but since yesterday I have abdominal pain.
Thanks

Anyone who even implied that it would be is full of it. But that doesn't mean that having the surgery is a bad move in and of itself.

On my second day home (4 days post op), I passed out due to internal bleeding. It was probably my fault as I was getting in and out of a recliner by myself.

Rushed to hospital by ambulance with very low blood pressure and then surgery to stop bleeding.

I had some abdominal pain early on, too, due to constipation.... May want to call your Dr if that persists.

I'm about 3 months out and my surgeon told me before the surgery that many people will experience "buyers remorse". Your hormones are going crazy still at 3 weeks out, so some of these negative feelings may be attributed to it. I was a hot mess (still kind of am). I recall sitting at the table and literally crying while I ate soft foods because I was miserable. My husband can eat what he pleases and it was distressing at the time to watch him.

Eventually, this will pass. It's kind of one of the many bumps in this long journey. I don't know how open you are to therapy, but I know I wouldn't have gotten passed this hurdle without my therapist. Sometimes talking without feeling judged helps. I also don't know your prior relationship with food, so I don't know how much of a comfort it was to you. I know for me, my life was food. I used it to cope with everything and after the surgery I had to find different things to use to cope (like exercise and art).

Try to keep in your mind that this is temporary.

Buyers remorse indeed. I had that same moment of breaking down and crying in my kitchen. My husband soothed me and told me I could do this and comforted me. I didnt realized how much food truly consumed my life. I ended up telling my surgeon and getting involved in a local support group and that has helped. So has this forum. Knowing others have felt what I have felt, and pushed passed it.

I had a few terrible days in the last two weeks since my surgery on 8/16. Crying on and off all day, that sort of thing. I think most of these bariatric programs don't really emphasize how hard it will be during early post-op. They'd do us all a better service by speaking plainly on that subject, with the encouragement that eventually it will get better. Perhaps they're not that good at it because most docs and nurses in these programs haven't had the surgery and have no emotionally-internalized understanding of what our bodies and minds must manage.

Like most people here, food was the center of my coping and pleasure, and so now I have the monumental task of rebuilding my emotional wiring to seek that elsewhere. Of course that upheaval will cause panic and despair -- but faith in the long-term results is what has to sustain people like you and me. We have no other choice now.

You're not alone, you're not abnormal, and I get where you're coming from. My best wishes to you on this difficult portion of our long journey to better health!

Yes I believe the support groups really help and this forum. Without it I think I would still be crying.

I bought a box (7 servings) of peaches and cream oatmeal (used one) and pumpkin spice pancake mix (none used).  I no longer want them.  The exp dates are 4/2023 and 10/2022, respectively.  I live in Manatee Co, FL.  Will take $10 for all.

OMG! My time is quickly approaching! I can't believe in 5 days, my life will be changed forever (for the better!). I have thought about this surgery for years, but kept telling myself I didn't need it. Now that I can view it as a tool and not a solution, I realize I do need this tool. This tool will not only help me physically, but mentally as well!

Getting close - 196 lbs as of this week.  Goal is 195.  Actually, I'm thinking of adjusting my goal.  I'd like to get down to 185 to get rid of this scraggly belly jiggle, then try to build back up to 200 with muscle instead.
