IUD has moved

Recommended Posts

I've had the paragard IUD for a little over 2 years, I haven't had any problems with it this whole time. My first period after surgery was about a week after getting sleeved and it was like it has as always been, nothing out of the ordinary and after my cycle was over I checked my strings before me and hubby did it and I noticed I could feel the bottom part of my IUD coming out of my cervix . Has anyone had any problems like this or am I one of the unlucky few? Do you think it could be from rapid weight loss and the hormones or maybe from surgery with them blowing up the abdomen with gas? I don't know but anyways I'm getting it taken out tomorrow and having another put in, I'm dreading it because I know how painful it is and I haven't had kids before.

I have the mirena, had it since before WLS and still have it. It hasn't moved. It does seem logical that it could shift with weight loss, but coming out seems odd. That being said- I've never been able to feel my strings.

I haven't felt my mirena shift and I am two months post op. I have however started having periods again. I have had a mirena for the past seven years and only had periods the first four months where I basically had one long period with small breaks of not having one. After that initial adjustment to the first mirena, I have had less than a dozen periods. I'm hoping this new development will go away after I lose my excess weight and shift into maintenance later on.

I got a Mirena when my daughter was 6 months old and I was going to start my first diet pills (Qsymia). Right around the three month mark with it, about 20 pounds down, I had to have a new one put in because it fell out. Like completely fell out.

I was in the shower and washing up my "undercarriage" and felt what I at first thought was a wiry gray hair (you know how those gray hairs have a coarser texture?) And then I realized it was the thread from my iud and that's when the whole thing just fell into my hand.

The worst part was that hubby and I had just had a "date night" so I had to take Plan B and it made me sick as a dog for three days. I never had morning sickness with either kid, but now I have so much sympathy for women that get it.

When you have the new one put in, ask your gyn for lido for your cervix. That makes the sounding a lot easier.

I have a Paraguard. I had it for about 3 years prior to surgery. It has not moved at all. I had a period every 2 weeks for over a year after surgery (due to weight loss hormones) so if it was going to move, it would have moved.

Mine fell out during my pre-op diet. I only had it for 10 months at the time... then I started having heavy bleeding which I hadn't had in the 10 months since placement... then boom it was gone. I had an ultrasound and X-rays and it's missing, the bugger just up and ran away.

Yesterday I went to the gyno, she looked and said it was just the strings that I was feeling because they were coarse, but I just didn't think that was it, I knew what I was feeling and knew that it wasn't just the strings. She did mention the strings were long so she trimmed them and then instead of just looking she felt what I could feel and realized I guess there was some mucus on the end and I was right the whole time, my IUD really had moved just enough to where I could feel the bottom tip, I bet she felt dumb, she didn't mean to but she made me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about. All in all she was really nice, she was the doctor that put it in the first place, so we took that IUD out and put a new one in and I'm all good to go now!

Hi ,

Did you have to get it removed to get your surgery? I've gotten mixed answers .

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
