Post-Op Stage 1 diet

Recommended Posts

My surgeon had me start on full liquids when I got home from the hospital yesterday. The list he gave me included grits, cream of wheat and mashed potatoes thinned.

I keep picturing those tiny grit pieces getting stuck on my staple line.

Is this a typical stage one diet or is it usually Clear Liquids only? I'm only 3 days post-op and am nervous about eating anything except broth, yogurt and Water.

What about sugar-free Jello, sugar-free popsicles, herbal tea? You could try whatever's on the approved list, but stick with what makes you comfortable and goes down all right as long as you are meeting your Water and Protein goals . . .. And, of course, Protein Shakes or protein water.

Good luck!

I'm on full liquids (well graduated to puréed at week one which I'm not crazy about) but my surgeon said no carbs.. :-/ I see you have chicken noodle or rice blenderized strained on your list..so tempting..

You should be doing liquids only for the first 2 weeks post op. Then adding pureed foods. Keep in mind that you need 64 oz of Water daily along with 60 to 80 grams of Protein.

Hi! I am confused about something. What if I am drinking protein water? I still have to drink 64 oz. of plain water on top of that? My surgery is this Thursday, so I am a bit shakey.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
