Yesterday I was struggling with wanting something else. So... I decided to try Peanut Butter. I had a tsp and I felt like I ate a rock. It hurt so much.

Today I went to my grandparents house and they made cheese cauliflower and I was able to stomach it. No problem at all. And man it was so so good..

That's wonderful that you were able to find something that sat well in your belly! How many stages do you have in your diet plan and how long will it take to get to solid foods? My NUT's plan is 2 weeks liquids, 4 week puree, and 5 1/2 months of soft foods. Soft foods is going to be rough but I'll do my best to stick with it! They have great success rate with their program and I'm looking to maximize the weight loss best that I can.

I was told 2 weeks of full liquid, puree for 2 weeks then at one month the bariatric program said they will tell me if I can start solids.

I was so happy today. I had edamame today and I was almost crying. It is my favorite. I had Melba toast and homemade spinach dip with ricotta cheese. So so good.

Hello all! I am just starting to really post on here. I am frustrated by a stall and concerned that my calories are too high. I have seen some amazing weight loss numbers on here and it is discouraging :(

Wow, that sounds delicious! I'm starting puree today and already bought a mini loaf pan for Eggface's ricotta bake. :)

Hi Jessilou!

So sorry to hear you're frustrated. I can relate - I haven't lost a pound in a week but have lost about 18.5lbs since the 17th. I worry that I've taken in too many carbs since the only liquid I could stomach was watered down Light apple juice with 14g of sugar/carbs in 8oz. Not really my best choice but it didn't make me gag! I've since been able to drink plain Water and crystal light. No more juice for me.

What kind of things are you eating and how much have you lost? Try not to compare yourself to others since we're all different! I also have PCOS so with my big stomach 18lbs would have taken me half a year to lose.

Cayote... typically grits thinned in the am, then a Protein Drink, 4 oz of cream Soup, then a shake, then more soup, and a shake!

I have been drinking the Bai antioxidant waters. They are pretty good. 1g of sugar.

Since June 18 I have lost about 40lbs. 1 month Optifast and then surgery July 17.

This week i have been emotional and irritable. Friday was my last day of school, we had pot luck. I brought potatoe salad because that was all I was able to eat.

And Saturday I went to my mother in law for a family get together and I had to bring food I can eat.
I am getting sick of making food every where I go.
I want to eat solids. Like a Caesar salad or steak. Hamburger sausage.

I am also in these Vitamins I bought and I can't stomach them. I eat a few and vomit. So who knows how much I am getting in.

Yes my rant for the day.

Here is a before and after picture so far.

Before picture was taken in March. Other picture was taken 2 half weeks post op

Hi Sassyprassy!

Sorry - I'm just now seeing this. So sorry to hear you've been having some troubles with the post-op eating. I admit I've also had some moments where all I've wanted to do was sink my teeth into something solid! I wasn't much of a regular cook before (which is how I found myself to be 295lbs!) so cooking has been a challenge. I went out and bought a mini 8-loaf pan and I make Eggface's Ricotta Bake in them. I double the recipe (16oz of ricotta) and it fills the whole loaf pan perfectly and I can eat on it for a few meals since each loaf is about 2 servings for me.

What brand of Vitamins are you using? Is it the taste or texture that's messing with you or just the Vitamin itself? It's been some time since you've posted so I hope you're doing better!

Happy 1 month + day surgiversary! It feels like months since I've got my surgery.

How is everyone doing?

Some notable things from this past month:

  • I'm down 25lbs from my surgery weight of 281. Wow. I checked MFP and the last time I was this weight was early 2015. I put on about 20lbs a year and now, in one month, I've lost that much. My highest was 295 and that was 3 weeks before surgery. I have PCOS and struggled so badly to lose the weight so it would come off then come back with more packed on. The only thing that helped was extreme Keto or just completely eliminating carbs and I knew that wasn't sustainable for me for the rest of my life. I buckled down for that 3 weeks.
  • food is now boring to me. I thought my biggest issue would be going out to eat with family and sipping on a Water while my family ate something delicious but it really doesn't phase me in the least. I eat so frequently that my appetite is always satisfied.
  • I'm down a size and a half. I started at a very tight size 22 and wore a 24 in some cases (I was in denial and kept squeezing myself into the 22's). My size 22 work pants are falling off of me and my 3x Ava and Viv sweater sleeves won't stay up. I'm doing some serious clothes shopping on pay day! I don't want to do too much because I'm losing about 5lbs a week.
  • My edema is GONE. My legs and feet, especially my right foot, would swell like a balloon and I could never find shoes to fit. I had to wear Crocs (Kadee Flats) to work which I think exacerbated the issue. It was so bad that a woman at my last job would call me Macy, as in Macy's Day Balloon Foot (I wasn't particularly thrilled with the name but she had a lot of issues so I ignored it).
  • My water intake is less now that I'm eating semi-solid foods. I feel so full all of the time that I have to remind myself to eat. Water completely fills me up after a few sips and I think I may be taking in 25-30oz a day. I have to get better with that.
  • I had horrible acid reflux and heartburn starting about 2 1/2 weeks pre-op. I finally started taking those nasty Prilosec beads and stopped consuming tomato-based foods and it's been pretty manageable. My nutritionist said I could start having Wendy's Chili on puree and I was *so* excited that I ate a few oz every day for the first week and I think it upset my stomach. Haven't had a bite since then and honestly I'm okay with that.
  • I've been able to keep my cravings in check, so far. My first day of puree I woke up with a taste for Taco Bell pintos and cheese on my mind. I became obsessed with it all day at work and my mouth would salivate when I would think about it. On lunch I went out and bought one, sat in my car and prepared myself for the taste of delicious, blended gold...it was horrible. I took two bites and knew I could make something better than this. That was the last craving I've had and anything else that pops up in my mind I can dismiss with ease because I know my head has on rose-colored classes and it's really not as delicious as it sounds.
  • And last, but not least - I enjoy cooking again. I like finding creative recipes that gets in all of my Protein and keeping it as low carb as possible. I don't really crave carbs anymore and I hope it stays this way for a while. My nutritionist is pretty lenient in the puree phase and allows us to make good, high-protein low-carb choices as long as it can be blended. I've eaten a lot of ricotta bake "loaves" that taste like little pizzas, homemade turkey meatballs...my partner loves it too.

TL;DR - Everything is great.

Hope you all are doing well.

Hello, Yes i am doing way much better. Maybe eating what I should not be.. I dont know. I am on solids. and I am sticking to the diet they are telling me. But i have been eating almost everything as long as it is on the list.

the Vitamins I was on ProCare vitamins. Big huge orange ones. I found it is the vitamins themselves. I at first thought it was the food i was mixing it with. But eventually figured out it was the vitamins. The taste and how it sits in my stomach I dont like it.

I got free samples from Pro Care and they sent me capsuls. A waste of time but I have been taking them because they are better than nothing. I am waiting for the other meds to come in. I orderd new ones from Bariatric that are tastier.. I was able to try some at the clinic i go to.

My favorite things to eat right now are Egg salad sandwich, chicken Greek salad, and Chicken with cauliflower :D

I have been having a few mental breakdowns.Which i was told is normal. I use to love food and it bugs me sometimes that I can't eat more foods. I miss popcorn, and my nuts

It really is! It felt like SUCH a chore during pre-op but now I find myself finding a recipe and being so excited to try it out! I picked up a cookbook called Fresh Start Bariatric Cookbook: Healthy recipes to Enjoy Favorite Foods After Weight-Loss Surgery which has some pretty good recipes in it. :)

How's everyone's weight loss looking? I've been in a nasty stall for over two weeks and finally lost 2lbs yesterday. I'm sitting at 255, down from 281 on surgery date and 295 at my highest a few months ago. That gives me a total of 26lbs post-op. I'm trying not to compare my experiences but I'm a little bummed! I have PCOS so I wonder if that's playing a part in it?

Some days I don't get my Protein in and I know most days I'm not getting Water in. Going to focus on those two things and see if it helps. I've also rekindled my love for whole milk so I need to pull it back and stick with just plain water for a while.

My weight loss is at a stall too. I was losing a lot. and now I lose about 3lbs in a week.

My biggest worry still is eating. I would eat and 2 hours later I would have to eat again. I am eating full portions. Someone said more Protein but I at a chicken breast no skin, boneless last night and 1 1/2 hours later I wanted to eat again. So i had my Protein Shake and 1 horus after that I wanted to eat again. I know it is my stomach because it would hurt soooo much until I went to eat it. The hunger pains.

I am so worried about regaining my weight back because I can eat anything. well all that is on the list. I never got sick yet. Oh wait I did w hile cooking a turkey. Smell made me sick. But i never liked turkey anyways. But the food going down nothing makes me sick. I dont know if i am listening to my body when I am full or what.

Other issues is when chewing I chew my food a lot but if it gets too soggy or mushy then I am gagging. so i can't chew it that much. I try to chew at least 20x. But it does not take me an hour at all to eat. More like 10 -15 min. So that worries me. I worry I am stretching my stomach eating more solid foods.

Anyways else having this issues.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
