Blood thinners and heavy periods?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I'm a newbie and at the start of my weight loss journey.

I'm not due to have my surgery for another four months. However I am concerned about my heavy periods. My doc is going to have me take blood thinners right before and for a while after surgery. I will speak to my doctor about this but I was wondering if anyone had

any problems with heavy periods getting worse or other issues? I just want to be prepared.

Thanks!!

Maria

Welcome! This is a good question for your doctor, since we don't know what type of blood thinner you'll be on, nor your health status.

But, I did get a couple shots (like Heparin) after surgery, and it didn't affect my period.

Congrats on deciding to change your life! It's a whirlwind journey, but you have found a very nice spot on the internet to rest on your laurels, and learn about others' journeys :)

I was on blood thinners lovenox and Coumadin after experiencing dvt and pulmonary embolism, and it made my hellishly heavy periods even more so. I am still on Iron supplements 3 years later due to the anemia caused by this situation. However, the blood thinners saved my life. Not an ideal situation but I prefer anemia to another pulmonary embolism or stroke.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
