Feeling normal, seems odd.

So I know I'm not the only one, but when I woke up from surgery the 1st thing I asked was "how did go? Am I all bypassed??"

I wanted to hear it directly from my surgeon, as I thought " I only feel slight pain from incisions, they must have gone in and cancelled it for some reason."

I've talked with nurses, anesthesiologist and everyone else that was in the OR with me and they all said it went perfectly!! I didn't see my Surgeon until this morning (day after surgery) and he caught me walking the halls and just laughed and said "well, you're up and smiling I guess you want to go home?" So I finally got to ask him face to face if everything went well and he said it went really well, no issues at all.

So I'm laying here at home with no gas pain, have been able to urinate like 2 hours after surgery on a regular basis. No BM yet, but I've not had anything to cause one since the Magnesium Citrate cleaned me out before surgery.

So I feel like I've not even had the surgery except the incisions, and the muscle pain from them going in and not being able to drink much.

I guess I psyched myself out thinking there was going to be more pain, but it appears I've gotten lucky.

Anyone else feel this way?

Thanks for reading!

Day of surgery I was also shocked at how good I felt. Second day had a little more discomfort. Muscles were more sore when I was getting in or out of bed. Incision sites were a bit tender for next couple of days. I'm on day 6 post op and incisions itch and have almost no pain.

Glad I'm not the only one feeling that way. I just woke up and my bowls are making a ton of noise!! Seem like they're waking up from the anesthesia finally.

I remember being worried the first few days that they didn't do the surgery since I felt so good. I've heard others say that as well - so you're not alone!

Be grateful! LOL I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time and couldn't breath properly for almost 2 weeks. The gastric bypass was the easy part. I had an easy time with that part, too. Keep walking, keep sipping! :-)

Oh I am most certainly greatful!!! Thankfully in my case I didnt have anything else done, though I know having the hiatal repair is common. Sorry you had to endure that!!!

I had the same experience with no significant pain and no gas and wondering if the surgery even really took place except for the fact I couldn't drink very much at a time. I wonder if some of it has to do with our high starting weights and always being in a certain amount of background pain. As the weight melts off you'll probably start to realize that you were always in pain when it suddenly goes away. It's a weird experience for sure.

I have a large hiatal hernia and an umbilical hernia that need repaired when I have WLS. How long were you in the hospital? Did they send you home with pain meds? My surgery is in two weeks.

I had a hernia fixed when had my RNY bypass. I was in hospital for 4 days post op and didn't take pain killers when I got home. I did have extra nausea after the surgery and was on an IV for 3 days as I couldn't keep anything down. Did get gas pains in upper chest area they diminished after 4 days and took medication for 3 months after surgery cause of hernia but can't remember the name.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
