Anyone miss food?

Recommended Posts

Maybe this is a silly question but I one wk I'll be sleeved. Sitting here with so many thoughts going thru my head. Wondering if I'll miss my 'food friends'. No more sitting down with a

bag of chips or slices of pizza...wings galore etc. I know these have been 'bad' friends and that's one of the reasons I'm where I am now. Thing is I could always count on them ... they were there if I was lonely, sad, stressed ... well you get the idea. I am positive about my decision and looking forward to the changes ahead in my health, appearance, self confidence etc. Can anyone who has already been sleeved had thoughts like this? Or those going to be sleeve? Thanks.

im gonna be 100 percent honest with you. I am almost 4 months post op and I miss food quite often! sometimes when I cant finish a meal, ill cry. I cant eat icecream anymore, it makes me sick. but having the sleeve was def the best thing ive ever done. I lost 60 pounds so far, the most I have lost in my entire life! its a mental battle but in my opinion- worth it. I used to turn to food for any reason I could find. if I was happy, sad, mad, depressed, etc. And when I would hang out with friends all we would do is eat. but now we like to take walks and watch movies.. with no food lol. its an adjustment but I wouldn't change a thing about where I am now. sounds cliché but the only regret I have is not doing it sooner.

@Sparklez

No, I basically eat all day long. I eat basically whatever I want. If I want pizza (rarely) I make low carb pizza. I have chicken wings all the time (I bake them in the oven or order them fried naked out), I eat Quest chips.

If you are willing to spend the money and you can cook you can have all the things you like in low carb WLS friendly versions. There is really no reason to give up anything or think you will never have it again.

I'm going to walk my dog and have some ice cream in a little while.

Today I had...

Bacon and coffee

Ranch Wings

Ribs (Beef with sugar free BBQ sauce)

Italian beef (in a bow)

And lost more coffee with half and half.

After the point you are healed, about 6 months post-op, you can eat a wide variety of foods. I love and enjoy food more now than I ever did before surgery.

I eat about 8 times per day, so there's no opportunity to miss food. I eat less than 20 grams of carbs per day, so I won't have many of the things I used to eat to excess, but I don't miss those things. I spent months and months getting my head in the right place to be successful. Weighing under 200 pounds, being active and healthy, and living life mean so much more to me than any pizza, hamburger, cookie, or cold beer.

I miss d that idea of food but now I just don't miss it at all. I have no hunger and my restriction is strong. Consequently, I don't feel much like eating. This seems good but it takes effort for me to get my 1000 calls a day.

One week post op and I'm never hungry so I don't miss food in that sense. My brain misses the idea of food. I had a mini rant yesterday when I tried sf pudding (an old favorite pre surgery) and I couldn't go past the first taste. Every single thing I've tried so far tastes different in a bad way. I taste the chemicals in food now. There is not a single thing I've wanted to go back and have more of - so far I've tried sf jello/pudding/tapioca/popsicles, all kinds of broth and Protein powders, tea, a finger swipe of ice cream, an inch of a ramen noodle, a bite and spit of a banana muffin (these last ones I was starting to get mad at food and just tasting things my family had to see if it was all gross... it was), and a sip of juice. I am both scared and excited for "real food" (fresh not liquid or processed). I hope it's not as disgusting as everything else so far. What's hard is that, apart from my husbands beer (I only smelled), all of these things SMELL normal and good. Nothing else in the world smells good anymore. Lol

No. At 11 months Post op I can eat whatever I want, so there's really nothing to miss.

Eating less however has actyally made me LIKE food more than I ever did before. So maybe I liked something about sitting down with an entire bag of chips pre-op, but it was mindless eating- I wasn't actually enjoying the taste. Now I often find myself TASTING a food more than I ever did before. Eating fewer bites so making sure to eat the best looking one first. Quality over quantity.

B. Annie I was the same way for the first few weeks, everything tasted weird and nasty. About week 4 I didn't even notice it anymore. Now I enjoy the taste of my food (the 2 bits I get anyway).

In the first couple of weeks you do miss food, but I think that is mostly because you can't have much as in flavor. But as you add more food, that too goes away and you start to find foods you like, that take the place of your old foods (like higher posted). I was a starbucks freak! (1 or 2 a day). Now my newest favroite is Mcdonalds SugarFree French vanilla Ice Coffee! OMG love it and I have one every morning (yes with a straw). It's a lot cheeper and I love the taste and my scal is still going down.

It does get better, I promise.

I dont miss food but I miss being able to eat with no trouble. I don't mind not being able to eat a lot because I'm rarely hungry. I just miss not having to wait on it to go down, worrying about if I'm going to have one bit too many and be in pain, or having to watch the time to see when I an drink again, etc.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
