If it's God's will...

Recommended Posts

I scheduled my surgery in Mexico. Paid $2100 of the $5100 I need to pay. Scheduled it for July 12th.

The evening that I sent $2100 and spent an additional $1350 for plane tickets....my husband got laid off.

I have panicked a little. But I keep telling myself that if this is what God has planned for me, it will happen. I have 6 weeks to get $3000 plus $500 spending money together. My husband starts another job tomorrow that lasts 2 weeks then he's supposed to start another 4 week long job right after. I pray it all works out. I really want to be healthy and have energy and not be in so much pain.

Don't rely on God.. rely on yourself. Do everything you can personally do to make your surgery safer. Make sure you're on a healthy liver shrinking pre-op diet low in carbs and high in Protein, make sure your blood pressure and HR are under control.. make sure you've researched who the surgeon is, their post-op program, etc., and got feedback from others to elevate the chances of success. "God" won't do that for you. It's all up to you.

I cringe every time I see a response from you...if God gives her comfort then so be it. You may not believe in God but don't take away from those that do. I really pray that God humbles you to be nicer and compassionate to others.

Thought of this as I read the past few responses.

Let me lend you a hand:

It's comedic that overly sensitive people would find that post bashing, when it's genuine advice about self-empowerment and making good choices rather than pushing that off on others to make. If that advice triggers you, seek help. I certainly am not going to change who I am because some snowflakes can't handle blunt advice that's not disrespectful whatsoever.

And to the above, I'm not an atheist, but here's a trophy for your effort.

I don't get that they are bashing the belief in God. I see it as God expects us to do for ourselves. I'm pretty sure that's why God gave us free will.

Then why do people pray? For strength, direction, for help, for others. It's nice to have someone to count on that will always have our back without judgement when we choose either the right or wrong path....unconditional love is what most people seek from God and soul care. People lack in unconditional love it's very rare.

If you don't believe in God why are you on a Christian thread. Please be gone. Thank you

Amen to that, now that you've announced you've blocked people (hint: it's irrelevant to the person you're announcing you're blocking, especially when they gave you the link to block them), maybe those of you who've not discussed the topic whatsoever (how ironic that this is the very same people ) might be able to contribute something worthwhile to the topic now.

@PatientEleventyBillion you think you are helping, but you come off as mannerless and uncouth. And therefore negate any advice you give.

And enough with the snowflake crap already - no one wants to hear it. And I am not one, so don't retort back on that.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
