My husband and I both had the RNY on September 6th 2016. We are now almost 9 months out and have lost a lot of weight. My husband started out at 496 lbs and is now down to 305 lbs. I started out at 304 lbs and am now down to 175 lbs. We have had a long journey together but are both making great progress so far. His first goal weight is to get down to 250 lbs and mine is to get down to 150 lbs. In hoping to hit my 150 lb mark by June 16th which is the date of our 9 month check up. It is now getting harder for me to lose weight because I'm getting closer to my goal weight. But I am determined to still try my best the next 4 weeks to get the last 25 lbs off.

After 5 months out from surgery I had surgery on my left achilles tendon and was not active of mobile for 2 full months so that really slowed me down for awhile. But now I'm back to work, excersing more and training for my very first 5K for September 30th of this year.

The photo shows our change in the past year and I am very proud of both of us!

Wowsers! Y'all have done amazingly! Do not beat yourself up if you don't make the 25lbs. That is asking a lot (possibly too much) of yourself. Just do your best, and be happy with whatever results you get :)

Congrats on your losses, you look great!

You two look amazing!!

I'm scheduled for the RNY next Tuesday @ 7:30am.

Today is my 6th day of the liquid diet. It's been amazingly easy. I'm ready to start this MY journey.

I won't push it. Between working 50 hours a week and just starting to be back on my feet just standing and walking at work right now is work out enough. Thank you!

Thank you! Good luck on your surgery! We did not have to do the liquid diet so I don't know how that feels. Good luck!

25 lbs in 4 weeks when you are this close to goal seems like an unreasonable expectation. The pace of weight loss can really slow down as you move closer to goal. Continue to do what you know what you need to do to lose and be proud of any continued losses. You will do great. I just don't want you setting some lofty arbitrary goal and then feeling frustrated if you don't hit it. You should be proud of any downward trend on the scale!

Thank you! I know its a lot of weight to lose. Ill be so happy if I did lost the last 25 lbs but I know its harder to lose weight as I get closer. I'm not going to push it to lose it all ill just be happy to lose what I can by my 9 month check up. But I am determined to be at my goal by my 1 year :-)

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
