New BariatricPal Tracking App! What Features Do You Want?

Hey BariatricPal Members,

We’re developing a new BariatricPal tracking app, and we want to know what features you want in it! Can you please let us know the MUST-HAVE features? Here are a few questions to guide you.

-Are restaurant foods essential?

-What is the easiest way to enter foods? Do you want to have a dropdown menu appear as you are typing?

-Do you need to be able to enter custom foods and recipes?

-Which nutrients are necessary to be tracked?

-Should some nutrients be more prominent than others? For example, do you want the option to choose a certain nutrient (say, protein and water), and be able to see a countdown of the number of grams of protein and ounces of water to get to your daily goal?

-Do you want to set customized goals for calories and nutrients?

-What other goal-setting features would you want to see?

Please describe any other features you want to see. What makes a food tracking app worth it to you? What does the user interface (what you see) look like?

Can you please say what is absolutely necessary, and what might be nice, and what you would hate to see? Or…how would you like your user experience to go? Can you describe what your ideal scenario would be each time you use the app?

We want to make this the best tracking app possible, so let us know. You can be part of making the best diet and weight loss tracker yet! Thanks!

I want to just quickly input protein, carbs, fiber, water. Not the foods and have the app calculate. I will provide just the macro numbers. I wish there was a simple app that gave me that quickie option!

Added fiber

I agree with@talkingmountain, except want to add that another essential is that it must connect to iPhone, iWatch steps and HR app, and actually have burned calories for weight training.

I use MFP and I like it. So this app must be like that but better. I like MFP's variety of cardio exercises and the calories burned.

I don't need a reminder about taking vitamins because I use vitamin patches.

Exporting information to a spreadsheet is a want, not a need.

I need to be able to enter a recipe name and the database be able to pull it from the internet, give me the accurate amount of carbs, calories, protein, etc. instead of having to put in the recipe items one by one. It needs to be able to access Pinterest (a lot of the recipes I want to try is on Pinterest) as well as the internet.

I'd like to be able to scan a barcode if typing it in doesn't work.

It has to be like MFP in the ability to have databases including restaurants and their current menus in order to get accurate results.

I also like MFP because you can join challenges, it tells you when you go over a nutrient, and gives you badges for accomplishments. I need those. They are a big help.

Really appreciate your feedback! Can you please be a little more specific? A real world example would be fantastic.

I use baritastic as well. It is hard to modify items like getting a cheeseburger or sandwich and eating half of bun or skipping the bun entirely. You have to guess.

Specifically I got a skinny turkey sandwich from jimmy John's. They pull out the middle part of the bread for you if you request. Then I doubled up the meat and used about 1/2 of the bread that was left. I found the sandwich on the app but then had to adjust my serving size guessing at it so that it didn't completely throw off my daily tracker.

I know this is an old thread but I'm wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the app? I flat out won't work for me. I deleted and tried to re-install.....won't do anything. Is just says "waiting" under the app. Thanks!

We're releasing a regular forum app update in January. The tracking app is scheduled to be released in the first or second quarter of 2018.

Good deal. Thank you!

It should def track workouts.

And it would be nice if you could customize your own personal macro goals or have it do it for you based on your diet preferences. (Ex: someone following a reg bariatric diet will have different macros than someone following keto or a vegetarian etc)
Reminders to enter food and workouts would be awesome too
