Just curious if anyone has had alcohol after surgery and how long after surgery was it? I have a party in a few weeks and I want to have one drink. I will be 4 weeks post op.

Four weeks post op is way to early. Your stomach is still healing.

I have had a little white wine since my surgery, but that wasn't until I was 4 months post op. It's really best and safer on your new tummy if you can avoid it altogether. Also, check with your surgeon about the matter, he or she may tell you that alcohol is never allowed. Each doctor is different.

I am going to wait. You are right way to soon. I don't want to screw anything up.

Good for you <3<3<3

I have gone out "drinking" with my friends since surgery (I'm 6 weeks out now) and stuck to Water, but found that the contact drunk and the atmosphere of the bar meant I still had a great time without the alcohol. I think you'll be surprised :)

I waited 6 months after surgery per my surgeon's recommendations. Your stomach is still healing 4 weeks out and the alcohol will irritate your stomach. Also you will get tipsy much faster after surgery so when you do try alcohol for the first time please make sure you are not going to drive.

My surgeon recommended 6 month post op, but I am waiting until June (my 6 months was 20 April).

just sharing my personal experience. your party probably already passed lol. I drank after 6 weeks post op. I didn't drink much. The only difference for me was that I felt full after drinking. I did not get tipsy faster and the feeling wasn't different. But that's just me. everyones different. I don't drink like I used to but if I want to go out and have a few drinks I will. my surgeon said its okay as long as I don't go overboard. so I make sure to know my limit.

4 weeks post op is way too soon! I drank at 4 months post op and just could never feel anything because I couldn't drink that much without feeling SO full and sick. Now I am 1 year out and I can drink 1-2 drinks over an hour. You will get tipsy for a very short amount of time.

8 weeks out and I've tried white wine and can't do it. Kind of burns and tummy just doesn't like it. Tried a sip of my very favorite cocktail and then threw it out. Just didn't taste good. 😩 I just figure my pouch says it's too soon.

All I can say is i would not try your first drink out with everyone you could be sick etc, try your first drink at home with someone you trust whenever it is. My surgeon told me to wait three months but i had one drink today at my mums almost 4 weeks out and i feel fine not advising anyone to do the same id never advice anyone on whats right but i am fine with my choice.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
