I just had my sleeve done 4/18/2017 so I am less then 2 weeks out. Everyone prepared me for nausea which thank god I have had none other then the first couple days. I am having no problem with drinking and I am just finding it hard to stay on the liquid diet. I really want to move forward and start with puree and soft foods but I don't want to mess stuff up. When did everyone start moving forward

You should move forward when your plan tells you to move forward. Your stomach is healing, and the liquid diet is in place for your own protection.

Good luck!

This is the hardest part, but you just have to get through it. Pushing your new stomach too far to fast can lead to complications and/or can slow your progress.

I know how tempting it can be to cheat - I've been on purées for almost a month now, and I'm so beyond sick of Soup I could cry, but we just have to grin and bear it.

You can do it!

Congratulations on your recent surgery! I'm still a few days close-up and I have nausea and don't tolerate Water very well. I'm looking forward to getting past the queasiness at this point. Hang in there! You're almost past the liquid stage!

Stick with your surgeons plan
Its not just for dieting but more importantly your safety. I know how you feel. I'm only 3 days post op and I'm looking forward to some bake fish, oatmeal, etc. But I'm also embracing the challenge because I know what the great outcome will be.

I was like you - I had no complications, no pain, no gas, no nausea, nothing post-op (just a little tender and sore). I was full of energy and was walking from Day 1 (Day 3 I did over 10,000 steps). I had no problems with liquids going down, but I tried hard to stay within limits since I didn't want to damage my sleeve. Similarly, I felt like it would be no problem to move forward in the stages, as I could probably handle them, but I didn't. I followed the plan. I'm now almost 3 months post-op and I can tell you that once you start eating, you will feel the restriction more. That said, I've been able to eat at least 1/2c - 1c. of food at a sitting, something that many people can't do until at least 6 months or more out. However...even though you feel that you can eat and do more, doesn't mean you should. Your stomach is still swollen and healing, and your nerves there are probably not working well, which is good (no pain) and bad (no pain to warn you). I think it's possible to do more damage without realizing it since it will be a few more weeks before you really start feeling anything. Of course you should talk to your doctor/NUT, but I think following their instructions is the way to go.

Boy....do I feel your pain!!! I was sleeved on 4/17 and I've been pretty good since I've been home. No nausea (except the first few days which were horrible!) and no real problem with getting fluids/protein. Well...yesterday was my first day where I felt hunger. I've missed eating all along, but now I'm starting to be legit hungry. It's manageable, but I've been considering moving forward a few days early. But.....I'm going to wait. It's only a few days, and the VERY last thing I want is to go back to the hospital. However, It is nice to know I'm not the only one [emoji4] Hang in there....that egg will come soon enough!!

Stick with your plan, trust me it's not worth the set back as we've seen here or with friends etc

I'm on thick puree for another wee then soft solids but I'm dying for a bit of toast

Thanks everyone I'm sticking to the liquid diet I don't want to mess anything up. It is nice to know I'm not alone. It's difficult specially the other day when I was out with the family and we go to five guys of all places and my kids and husband are sitting there eating burgers and fries while I'm drinking a Protein Shake I picked up from the health food store down the hall. I'm doing this for my health though I can't give in.

I ate my egg 1 day early, not gonna lie. However- I know where you're coming from. I'm closing my third week on Wednesday, and that's when I get to start shaved turkey, greek yogurt, soft fish, etc. I WANNA DO IT NOWWWWW- but I won't. There's a reason I was told to wait and I'm sure in hindsight I will be glad I did. Good luck- I'm rooting for ya!!!

How are you doing with yours??

I was sleeved on the 13th as well. I'm doing pretty good now. I had a few rough days with a couple regretful moments but now I'm so happy I did go through with it.
I started soft foods on the 25th. That first egg last looked and smelled wonderful but once that first tiny bite and you swallow.... reality hits you and you realize how much slower you have to eat and how important it is to chew. I thought I was going to eat it all in no time but it took me almost an hour to finish it. I had to put sour cream. They recommend adding mayo or low carb dressings to help make it moist. It being too dry will make it hard to swallow and feel like it's stuck in your esophagus or throat. I couldn't even get a 6oz yogurt finished in 30 mins. It took me an hour. But slowly but surely you'll get it down in no time. I'm ok to eat a yogurt in 30 mins now. Soft food Proteins are still taking me a while to finish but it feels so good when I look at that scale. It's all worth it. It's hard work but so worth it right. Congrats to you all and hope we all reach our goals in no time with hard work, dedication and discipline of course.

My date was the 12th. It's crazy how all these doctors have different plans and schedules for when to add what. My stage 2, I was allowed yogurt, sugar free pudding. I go to stage 3 on Wednesday which will add puréed foods. I can't have a real cooked egg until stage 4 which will be may 10th. I am only now starting to feel "full" and it's only sometimes.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
