I really want to do the procedure, I'm new to the group I haven't set up anything. I did consult and I'm super excited because my main reason doing this is to have children I have struggled my weight all my life. I have tried Herbalife, teas, pills and on my own going to the gym. I'm no less than 220 lbs but scared to get bigger. I'm also diabetic type 2, I changed my ways of eating but temptation is all around. So when I want a bad foods I gain weight, get bloated. I snore alot, I have allergies, Asmtha and I get numbess on my body, and getalot of leg cramps. I been trying to lose weight and no success, I'm scared not to be able to have children after a certain age. I have tried everything, hormone shots, birth control and no luck with children. I have faith that one day I will have my little ones. Off topic so I'm really planning this procedure but I would like feed back on people's experience, I'm scared I may lose touch much weight, or something may go wrong. I've read stories and not good ones. Can you all tell me ur experience the good the bad.

I had my gastric bypass 11/9/16 I was 237 I am 5'3' and have gone from a size 22 or 3X to a size 10 in 5 months down 88 pounds. Is it easy NO. It has been a re-learning experience everyday since the surgery. I am so glad I had the surgery and only wish I did it when I was younger like you. I also was diabetic and was off all meds 2 days after surgery. My joints no longer hurt, my muscle spasms at night are gone and not bones spurs in my heels no longer are an issue. Wishing you the best.

Thank you. I'm so nervous it's for next month. I'm doing this for plenty of reasons and I don't want to get bigger. I hope all goes well in my surgery. I'm scared to have those urges but Dr says gherlin hormone is removed so I won't crave as much it's all in my mind. I hope to have a good experience

It's true my family is in town from Chicago and they were eating my favorite deep dish pizza normally I would been drooling at the mere smell of it, interestingly enough I sat there and watched eat and really could care less I didn't even want a piece

I wouldn't have lost 140 pounds without the surgery. It is a life adjustment for the first year and you'll need to diet and exercise if you want to lose all your weight and keep it off. But it is a wonderful tool. And I had no major issues but I followed program and took Vitamins and Protein Shakes. I also did not have noticeable Hair loss which I think is due to taking vitamins and Protein shakes.

Surgery is scary. That's ok. So are major life changes, which is what this is. I'm 8 months post-op. I've lost 72% of my excess body weight and have about 30 pounds to go to my goal - which will be 120 pounds from my high weight this time last year. I had no complications. I was in the hospital over night and home by 1 the next day. I was back at work (I'm a desk jockey) in 6 days. I was in the gym 4 days after surgery on a recumbent bike for an hour. You have to get your head in the right place because 99% of your success will be your attitude.

I decided I wasn't going to be the fat mama at my daughter's high school graduation - and I'm not. I went from a size 22 pants (barely closing the button) to a size 10 today.

Best decision I ever made. Follow your team's plan and you will be fine!

I had a bypass in Feb 2017 and I've been great with no complications. Best decision I've ever made although I do agree that you also need a positive mental attitude and embrace the changes that are made. I love making sure that I do 10000 steps a day which is the complete opposite to how I was pre op !

things can go wrong with *any* surgery. People have died getting their tonsils out. But like tonsillectomies, this is one of the safest surgeries there is. Mortality rates are extremely low - something like 0.3% for bypass, even lower for sleeve. It's much safer than a hip replacement surgery, and they do those every day!

re: getting too thin: far more people don't make it down to their goal weight than get too thin. I wouldn't worry about that one *at all*. Plus you can always stop the weight loss by adding more calories.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
