Do VSG people get stomach flu?

Recommended Posts

Hello, just gathering info and if this has already been a topic I apllogize for redundancy.

After surgery what happens when you get the stomach flu - since getting dehydrated would happen faster I imagine? Has anyone any advice?

I had bypass so not sure how it is for VSG. Three months out I got sick one night. Thought my dinner didn't agree but after 4 hours of vomiting I realized it must be the flu. I tried all night to get liquids in but because my muscles were still newly healed they weren't sure how to react...the result was muscle spasms that caused dry heaving. I did go to the ER the next afternoon and was given fluids and an anti nausea med.

Don't wait if you can't keep liquids down for more than 12 hours. Go to emergency care!

When I was in the ER they did an X-ray to make sure my "new insides" were still in place.

There is no reason that we won't get stomach flus, unfortunately. Just try not to get the stuff until you're healed! And like sherri said.. seek treatment if dehydration is a concern.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
