Hi, My name is Lauri, I am happily married to my husband Ray, I'm 48 years old & as the title says, I'm in Danville, PA.

I'm looking for anyone around here that has maybe recently had gastric bypass, or even better yet sleeve to bypass revision. I am being fast tracked & am looking for someone that I can turn to for help, support, and who can relate to what I'm going through.

Right now, even though I'm extremely happily married & my husband is more than supportive, he just can't fully understand the loneliness, and the changes that I have had to deal with in such a short time.

On March 8th I quit smoking, on March 27th I started the diet that the hospital put me on. I was told that I only have to maintain my weight, but I have actually lost 10lbs since March 21st when I went to see the nutritionist. Yep, I defied the odds, I quit smoking AND lost weight LOL!!!!!

As I said, I'm looking for someone who is going, or has gone, through the WLS through Geisinger

How are you doing with your weight loss & when did you have your surgery?

I had my surgery 25 May and I'm down over 60lbs. I had one of my incisions pop open and had to be reclosed 7 July... I think I'm doing good. I went from 26-16 size wise. Good luck with your appointment, you have a great Dr

Hi Mema,

Sorry to hear that your incision popped. The incisions on my belly didn't have any sutures. I'm assuming my stomach has staples?

Where are you located at?

Lauri

Hi! I do not have a set date yet but I will be seeing the surgeon on September 26th. Dr. Gabrielson will be doing the surgery. My dad will be the one bringing me since my son and husband have to stay at home for school and work. I do not know how long the stay is. Hopefully not long.

If it's easier you may reach me at cmbarrett23@gmail.com

I would love a visitor!

I'm located in Coudersport, PA. I'm doing good down to 215 from 289. I didn't have outside sutures but the incision that opened was a crazy one with no pressure on it but my body does it's own thing...lol

Hi Memabock,

I'm not sure where Coudersport is, I've heard of it, but not a clue where it is.

You're doing great! I'm stuck between 233 & 236, which means I'm most likely losing in size again. I went from a 3x nightshirt to a Lg/xlg nightshirt. Hubby is really proud of me! Honestly I can't remember the last time that I was at this weight. I look forward to my 1st big goal which is 199. The last time I was that weight was in 1996 when I found out that I was pregnant with my son.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
