What about these big arms?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have always had huge, nasty upper arms. What are some good excercises to make them go away (even just a little). I am so afraid that plastic surgery in a year will be my only hope (and who can afford it?!)

I would LOVE to join Water areobics, but I absolutely look like a flying squirrel in a tank. I just don't know how to get around it. Why don't they make swim suits with sleeves?

Geesh!

Any advice?

Actually Water aerobics would really help. And I really don't think anybody will be looking at you because they will be to busy thinking that you're looking at them!

Otherwise you could get a pair of 5lb weights and just do all types of arm exercises, and really burn out the muscles. Try doing 2-3 sets of 30 reps each. Just do a search for upper body exercises. And try pushups, real ones, they have really helped me. When I started I could only do 1 at a time. Now I can do 25 at a time.

Hi,

I have big upper arms too...to the point where I often have to buy a size larger shirt just to fit my arm in it. BUMMER. I DO plan on having surgery when I get more weight off. BUT...to answer your question... I often wear a big t-shirt OVER my swim suit in Water aerobics. That way, you can exercise and feel better about yourself! Whatever you do, don't skip the exercise! Also, lift weights!

Buy a rash vest! That will cover your arms nicely and they're perfectly acceptable pool and beach wear these days.

Well in Australia anyway, not sure if they're still just something surfers were over there, but here, rashies on the beach are more common than not.

I have a surfer shirt---it is great it is long sleeves--go to your nearest scuba shop or large atheletices store---the shirts have spf 50--which is great----i got one in a 3X (mens)--that is the biggest I have seen--but it will be tight--it needs to be-it loosens when it gets wet-but it is like a girdle for your arms!!!---and if you go to the beach---you look like a surfer!!!--and less sun tan lotion--I was always missing a little of my huge upper arms and getting burned --but these shirts are the best!--and you just look smart and not like you are trying to cover!!

I think we mean the same thing, lol. Those lycra SPF 50+ shirts.

You virtually wouldnt see a child on the beach without one here, in the Australian sun they're absolutely necessary.

Surf shirts, rash guards, dive skins, all the same thing.

Exercise won't make excess skin go away. At most, it will build up the muscles under the skin, giving the appearance that the skin is tighter (just like fat would).

Look at www.junonia.com and click the Swimwear link. Under "Solutions" click on "Full Coverage." You will find several high coverage options.

Wow. Thanks! I have never heard of rash guards before. Being in Mississippi, I think everyone is obsessed with showing as much skin as possible on the beach, but the website you recommended had a nice shirt and short set that looked great as well as sounded like a smart option to skin cancer! I'm a librarian, what do I care about being tan anyway?! Thanks for the help!

Oh thanks for THAT image. I am grinning from ear to ear and wiping tears from my eyes. I will remember that for a long time. Sorry for your flaps, Melissa, but you have a GREAT sense of humor. That's better than skinny arms....

My arms are gross. The worst part is, that as I lose weight, the fat is not as dense or firm as it used to be. Now I'm squishy all over. My arms flap even more!!! Horror!!! They have gone down a bit, but those flaps....I've also noticed that when I pinch my arms in the triceps, the fat has gotten grainy feeling. Like there is uncooked rice in them thar mud flaps!! what the hell is that all about???

Aubrie - have you been squishing my arms?!?!?!! Mine are the same way!!

I was wearing a short sleeve shirt and my 14yr old boy walks by and stops suddenly - he says "hold your arm out" which I do like an idiot. He starts flapping my arm and tells me I'm just like my 80yr old granma!!!! I wanted to kill the boy :rolleyes2:

Wombat,

Where in Texas are you? I'm in corpus Christi.

My sons know better than to make a comment like that. I'd knock them into next week!! LOL. they are 19 and 23 so they are a little older. Actually, they are pretty protective of me. Imagine that........ they have told me that my baggy pants don't look nice, that I need to buy new clothes....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
