Hi all,

I am booked for surgery at Obesity Control Centre (OCC) in Mexico with Dr Ortiz on July 12th. I am from New Zealand so will be travelling a good 20 hours to have this surgery.

Like the US or Australia, the cost of self funding in NZ is around $20-30k NZD. It is incredibly unaffordable which is the reason for wanting to go to Mexico! I am paying $9.5k NZD ($6.5k USD) for the surgery and about $2k for flights.

My goal is to lose 64 kg which will put me into a normal BMI.

I have heard nothing but good reviews for Dr Ortiz and his team so I am reassured he will see me through with no problems! Their whole team have been in contact with me over the last few days to ensure I'm absolutely prepared for surgery. Anyone else been to OCC for surgery?

108 days to go and counting!

Dr Ortiz is a wonderful doctor with a great team. They will take excellent care of you from the time you get off the plane until the time you board your flight back to NZ. My daughter-in-law and I had surgery with him almost 4 years ago. I am a nurse practitioner and my D in L is a doctor of pharmacy, so as you might imagine we searched and researched far and wide before we chose our physician and feel we made the absolute right decision. We are both maintaining goal weight for over two years now. Life is good. We want to remind you to wear the loosest and softest clothes possible for your return trip so you will be comfortable on the long flight.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
