I am 4 days out and supposed to be on a soft diet. In all my infinite food wisdom, I ate about an ounce of baked salmon tonight. Now I am having some indigestion and my chest feels very heavy. What do I do now?

Don't do it again and follow your diet given to you by your nutritionist.

Remember that feeling - heavy chest and nasty indigestion. that's your sleeve telling you that you made a mistake. I know how frustrating it is to not eat "real" food. And I know how bad you want to chew, but your stomach is still healing and you can do damage if you do not follow your team's plan to the letter. Pick yourself up, brush yourself off and go back to what ever your plan says to do.

The discomfort will pass before long. It's a learning process. Before you know it, you'll be able to eat this stuff again, but it's definitely hard in the meantime. Keep your head up!

thank you all, your encouragement is what I needed this evening. I have cried the last three evenings, I know this is a step in the right direction, I just need to toughen up.

I felt the urge to chew tonight so I had an unsweetened applesauce. Its the only "texture" on my plan which is smooth liquids until the 29th. It was a lifesaver. I feel satisfied and more importantly I feel good I was able to resist temptation because this IS SO HARD!

Yay!!! For you! I will keep the apple sauce in mind, I am enjoying a hot tea with Splenda now that my pain has subsided.

You should call your doctor or team and see if you are really Ok or if there are symptoms that you should look out for now that your staples might be "clogged?" Hope all is well with you!

In my book (according to my guidelines) salmon was allowed on mushies already and very much part of my soft diet.

We have all had this happen to us in the beginning making the wrong choices is a part of the process to find out what your body will allow you to eat.

In addition - during the "soft" phase make sure you make whatever Protein you're consuming as mushy as possible. For instance - if you try salmon again it must be mixed with a liquid to change the consistency. So, if you like low-fat Italian dressing or balsamic vinaigrette use a tbsp of that to mush your protein so it is sleeve friendly. Good luck!

4 days out of surgery and you're able to eat soft foods? I'm 2 weeks out and finishing my full liquid phase tomorrow then move to puree foods. I'm terrified to eat/cheat with anything because I know the complications that can result. But I'm confused as to why some are able to eat so soon after surgery and I'm supposed to eat puree and soft for 3 weeks and then start a regular diet week 7?

I called my surgeon after this incident and he told me to progress as I felt comfortable, chew everything thoroughly, and the only restriction is to wait on Proteins (beef, chicken, pork, etc). If I have upset, go back to Clear Liquids and restart. I have used common sense and keep things soft and chew for what seems like forever. My body lets me know within one bite if it's a go or not.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
