Help - advice please I am considering the sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, firstly I am so glad there is this forum and there is so much experience here.

I am in my 40's a typical story of Diet Coke addiction binge eating and fad diets.

I have had a private consultation and my bmi is 34 with a weight loss needed of 5 stone. I can have the sleeve and I really think it will suit me in that my bad food choices will be removed or restricted

My biggest fear is Hair loss. I have fine thinning hair anyway and it will be really noticeable so how likely is this and is there anything to prevent this or any supplements?

Secondly and this is frivolous but going out drinking is a big part of my life and a life without alcohol will be a struggle. I accept the point about calories and accept that it will not aid weight loss but other than this and low tolerance, is there any reason why reduced alcohol cannot be consumed on the odd night out.

Any one that can give me some advice would really help. I really want to change but I need to do it with my eyes wide open

Thanks all

I like a drink too. It has no doubt slowed my weight loss but I do drink less than before.

HW 19 st 4lbs
SW 18 st 23/8/16
CW 15 st 4lbs

I am 60 years old and now so much fitter doing swimming and gym.

Thanks Klette0147 as long as I can still go out and have the odd drink I don't mind about it slowing down. Well done on your progress and thanks for replying

Hi👋🏻 JC . I'm having my sleeve soon. Got my pre op next week. I've done lots of research over the time I've been waiting. With the Hair loss it's down to the hormone changes we go through after removal of most of the stomache that from month 3 people notice some hair loss. This stops usually at about 12 months to 18 months when your hormones regulate themselves better. I too have fine hair and although not a deal breaker I was concerned . I've read that expensive suppliments will not alter the hormonal changes . It's viral though to get your daily chewable vitamins in without fail and Protein requirements. Take heart that the hair loss as a result of surgery are temporary and the benefits huge. I love a drink on the weekends and have learnt from others that you may be able to enjoy a small drink but it will affect you faster than before surgery so take it very careful and the overwhelming message is do not drive😅.

Im going to try and have the mindset to avoid alcohol for as long as possible and enjoy the weight loss . That's the plan 😉 All the very best on your journey to a healthier you X

Thanks Lisa and good luck.
I am 4 and s half weeks post surgery now and all is good. Had my first non drinking night out last week and it was not bad at all although I do want to enjoy a drink in the future.
I am still worried about hair loss. I was told to keep the protein up to 60 grams to mitigate this but it's hard to do and I was also told that if it's going to happen there is little can be done to prevent it. I have invested in some nourkrin but I don't think it will have any impact. I am however on a multitude of tablets including forceval so hopefully, any loss will be minimal

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
