Finally!! I'm about to start the pureed diet after what feels like a very long 2 weeks on liquids only. Has anyone got any tips or recipes?

Although I'm excited, I'm also a bit nervous because I don't know if I'm going to feel bloated or pain or anything - I'd be glad to hear of others' experiences, positive or not.

Thanks :)

My advice is to just take it slow and I wouldn't worry too much about making recipes or anything because you will be eating so little that even a meal will take days to eat. My NUT gave me a basic list to follow when I as in the puréed stage so if you have one, follow it, otherwise, refried Beans, cottage cheese, and soft eggs were my main staples. The good news is that this passes fast and soon you'll be on to the fun of trying everything again for the first time. You'll be surprised how foods you hated before now taste so different now. Good luck!

Thank you Sajijoma, that's good to know. I've bought some ready-made mashed potato and ready-made mashed carrots and swede - I'm going to portion them into the little baby food prep bowls tomorrow. I will be able to just eat those as they are - I won't need to further blend them will I? What do you eat with the cottage cheese? I like cottage cheese but usually have it with salad. I cannot wait to eat 'real food' again. I'm ok with the fact I'll be having tiny portions - it's just the variety I'm missing at the moment.

I'm in the puréed stage and I stick mostly to cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and refried Beans. As far as the cottage cheese goes I eat it alone with a little bit of pepper. I keep it short and sweet. I focus on my Protein and Fluid intake. One thing else I really enjoy is sugar free popsicles. Good luck! [emoji846]

Just eaten my scrambled egg too quickly and I've thrown up. I've got to eat slowly! Also, a whole egg and a bit of cheese is still a bit too big for my stomach pouch at the moment - I've got to look at food and have an idea of what volume I'm going to be able to manage. Later on, like 6 months or something - does the pouch expand at all?

Might not want to scramble the egg. My nut told us that for some reason patients tend not to do so well with scrambled eggs. She assumed maybe it had to do with the scrambling part..maybe adding air? Either way she recommend cooking them a different way than scrambled. Said patients did much better. So it may not be that you at it too fast at all... Just an FYI...

Poached egg is tolerable to me but scrambled blehhhh. I just end up needing to lie down from nausea if I have scrambled egg.

Also I sometimes cook an egg on super low heat and covered while I hop in the shower ... it cooks perfectly on very low heat in 10 min and is as tolerable as poached egg.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
