Not Losing Weight

Recommended Posts

Hi there everyone!

This is my first post here. I've lurked for a while hoping to find someone that's having the same issue as I am, but I hadn't quite seen anyone with my problem (or I'm just blind which is also possible), so I decided to post despite being really shy about forum posting in general. Please go easy on me. :>

I had RNY on December 19th. I feel like all of the weight I lost was within the first two weeks, then it just completely stopped. My starting weight was 317, and more than 2 months later I'm only at 291. When I read about most people starting at a lower weight than me yet still dropping way more than I have by now, it's discouraging as hell and I feel like I'm doing something wrong. It's embarrassing when my whole family knows I've done this and every time they see me, they're expecting me to have lost more weight, but nothing changes. What's going on? Why am I not having any success like everyone else on here? I thought it might be due to having PCOS, which is why I couldn't lose weight to begin with, but I've also seen many of you able to still drop the weight despite having PCOS. It could also be due to not exercising every day, but I find that I'm so drained of energy on the daily that I can't even bring myself to do it most of the time.

I just kind of feel like I went through this whole chaotic process only to lose 26 pounds and that's making me understandably upset. I just keep being told that "the weight will come off, everyone loses differently," but when people go into this surgery starting at around 250 pounds and they've already dropped 40+ by now, I have to wonder where I'm going wrong. I'd appreciate any sort of help at this point. Thank you!

It takes most people about one year to lose the first 100 pounds and then about five pounds a month for another six months. Some people are much quicker and some are much slower. The important thing is to be sure you are weighing, measuring and tracking everything that you eat and drink.

Are you making your Water and Protein goals? Both are very important. If you aren't meeting them then your body will believe you are starving and will not allow you to lose weight. Are you following your vitamin/supplement regimen?

I've been slower than most to. I'm 6 months out. People tell me that it seems I stay the same then overnight it looks like I've dropped 20. Lol take your body measurements. You could be losing inches just keeping plugging away. It will happen

I haven't have my surgery yet, it will be in May but I have been reading a lot and learning a lot from others posts. One of the things that got my eye was that a lot of people keeps saying to keep the carbs count under 50 and the Protein intake above 100 and that will help with loosing weight. I am very interested in this because I was diagnosed with diabetes and I should be eating a low carb diet but please give me some advise in your experiences

Nutritionist advised 60 grams of Protein a day which was two Premier Protein shakes. Didn't count carbs but kept sugar low. The first few months you're eating so little you have to make sure you're eating enough but u won't be eating bread Pasta or rice they don't fell good in stomach. I eat carbs but avoid gluten on most days except for special occasions...so no bread pasta crackers Cookies

At my 3 month appointment, they told me the tires feeling is still normal. Because success with this process comes from a balance of so many things (water, Protein, calories, Vitamins, exercise - which BTW you shouldn't worry about too much at only 2 months in, just doing some walking and staying active is key, in fact I think you'd still be on restrictions) I would recommend talking to your dietitian to ensure you have the whole picture covered. Yes, you will lose slower because of PCOS. And yes, some ppl just lose slower. As long as it's consistently coming off, just try and be happy with that. I know it's hard when other ppl are killing it, but make sure you're not eating to few calories, that will slow things down.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
