5 days post op & weak !! Please tell me it gets better

Recommended Posts

It's normal. I had no energy the first two weeks, and times I did I burned out pretty quick. Your body has been through a lot. Between the healing and low calories there isn't much left over to feel energetic. For me I seemed to start picking up a little bit of steam once I was on the pureed stage. Although I'm still not getting in a ton of calories it seemed to make a difference. Maybe it was more mental than anything.

About 2 1/2 weeks after surgery was when I returned to work. First few days were rough but every day got better and better. Keep focusing on getting your fluids and Protein. The better I did on getting those in the better I felt. Is it still difficult to actually get your fluids down or is it just a lack of wanting to drink? Do those number factor in any Protein Drinks?

Completely normal. Between having major surgery and the lack of calories, your body has nothing to give. If you're not able to get your fluids in, ask about coming in for fluids. I was miserable and they gave me fluids at my 2 week post op appointment and I left there feeling 100%. I've felt wonderful since.

Allow your body to heal, eat and drink what you can (even though it seems so small and not enough) and just be patient. Once your body heals and readjusts to your new stomach, you will be able to eat/drink more, move more and have energy. I had the same concerns and my nutritionist assured me that at my 6 month appointment I would feel like a completely different person! At about 2.5 months, I turned that corner and have felt amazing ever since. Everyone is different...just listen to your body...you will get there!

I'm a man, and was still with no energy for about 3 weeks, now I'm approaching my fourth week and it's getting better by the hour. Am almost back to normal.

Eat healthy and you'll be fine.

I lost some muscle in the beginning but once I could excersize, I have regained a bunch!! I was never a runner and now I love it! If you enjoy strength training, you will lose the fat and be a lean muscle machine! Good luck with your surgery...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
