Must follow everything to a "T" or I'm gaining weight

Recommended Posts

I'm a little over 4 months post op. I feel like I have to watch every bite I take and exercise for several hours a night to see weightloss. It's frustrating. I know of others that have had wls and are drinking beer and eating whatever and the weight keeps sliding off. Meanwhile I've been fighting with the same few lbs for weeks!

The people that are "drinking beer and eating whatever" won't be losing weight forever. Changing your relationship with food is what makes for success long term. If these folks are truly doing what you are saying, let's see where they are in a couple of years. I am militant about everything that goes into my body. I have to be that way to be successful. Keep doing what you are doing. You will be better off in the long run.

It is necessary to continue to change as you go. Change the type of exercise you do. Also take in more vegetables and fruit. Just don't over do it. Change your regimen, and it will wake the body up and make it work to keep up with that change. food for thought.... If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you always got. You want change, then you must change. That can be applied to any area in your life!

Drinking beer and eating everything you want is what got most of us in the position of needing WLS. You know what you need to do to lose weight. Get in your Protein and Water, watch your carb intake and exercise. The sleeve is a tool and not a magic pill.

Follow your new eating habits. Dial back or change up your exercise. You didnt gain it all in a day. Even though you had surgery, you wont lose it in a day! Stay away from scale! Otherwise you start a new obsession. I was where you are, everyone was eating and going back to old habits. It took me 18 months to hit my goal of 100 lbs. At first I saw no weight loss and really beat myself up. Once I got away from the scale, started taking baby steps in the exercise area, 50 lbs melted away. Dont live your experience via what others are doing. You are unique. I had my sleeve June 2013, most people I know that didn't do it slowly, gained most of their weight back. Yes, I started doing like them, started gaining it vack, but caught myself and am now back here redoing the steps...and losing!! Even have gone back to my "baby" utensils my kids for me to show support when I was sleeved.

Do you....you do you best! And besides, everyone else is taken!

I would call your nutritionist and see what s/he says. I find they always have great insights.

Not looking for a magic pill. Just frustrated that those who are putting little to no effort are shedding ten lbs a week while I'm chipping away at 2 lbs. I know we shouldn't compare ourselves with others but it all honesty it's hard not to.

It is very hard, but remember we all decided to take the journey, and none of us are the exact same so will take different paths and times to get to where we want to be. Sit back and enjoy the ride, but remember the most important thing is to keep yourself moving forward along the path!

I agree, it is hard to watch others lose faster. I avg between 1-2 lbs a week now and it's been like that since my 2nd month after surgery. I do know I am losing inches because I keep having to go down in clothes size. I'm not eating anything/everything I want and honestly, I hope I will stay this careful the rest of my life, because I feel so much better having healthy food in my body. It's not to say that I won't allow myself a slice of pizza or birthday cake every once-in-awhile but it's not the norm. Try to not compare yourself to others. We all have different body shapes, ages, metabolism. I'm in my 50's now and I started with a lower BMI, so I know I will lose slower. Now that I am within 20 lbs of goal, it will even get slower. I anticipate it will take me 3 or 4 more months to lose this last weight. Good luck with your journey. Just persevere and you will be successful

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
