A nervous beginner seeking encouragement

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I am currently still in the process of paper work & testing to see if my insurance will cover me for the gastric sleeve. I have been putting the process off for about 4 months now & I think I'm ready to do it. I am still nervous because of some of the horror stories I've read but I'm not new to undergoing surgery just seeing people fail with this as their "last option" isn't encouraging. Has anyone successfully or know anyone successfully that did the sleeve and got the results they expected? & is anyone else in the same stage I'm in? What are some things you're doing to try to stay positive especially when you don't really have support from family/friends?

I am also in the process of getting approved. Should meet all my requirement and submit to insurance in March (hopefully). I go back and forth with anxiety and excitement. I wonder if this is the best decision and if I'll just be one of the failures. But then I remind myself that as long as I put in the work mentally and physically and be cautious of my emotions I will be able to succeed. It will be hard, but in the end it will have all been worth it.

This forum is great for support and you could also check out some local support groups to help keep you on the right track.

You can this.

And what made me decide to finally jump on board was my friend has the surgery in May of last year and has already hit her goal weight. She looks amazing and is loving life. I want that too and can't wait to have it.

The term last option for me personally is just being tired to be honest. I'm tired of yo-yo dieting, up & down, battling this weight issue for 10 years etc. I believe it's last option to take control of your life. I haven't told many people and read all positive stories here , IG & YouTube and they really inspire me

You certainly have to consider the possible problems that you might experience, but the odds of complications are very very low. It's normal to feel nervous.

This surgery is a miracle. I weigh less than I did in high school, and though my weight loss has slowed, I am still losing and have lost my obsession with food. That happened over night.

Keep thinking of the reasons you want to take the plunge. Keep looking at before and after pictures on this site. Meet people through whatever program you choose for surgery.

@Newbeva...good luck with your process. Definitely praying for the best. & yes the anxiety & excitement is nerve racking for me. & you're absolutely right; we just have to stay positive & put in the work to get the best results. & I have been trying to find a support group in my area (Milwaukee) but haven't had any luck. Most of the support groups are here online. Have you found any support groups yet? If so how's it going for you? & its crazy that you mentioned your friend inspiring you because that is my same reasoning. She has lost 123lbs today (7 months post her surgery). So proud of her. She had gastric bypass though.

Also thank you for the encouragement! I have faith in you too!!

@Ivfavy...that's exactly what I mean by that term too lol. I have tried so many diets, exercises, work out groups, medications both prescribed & over the counter & nothing has worked permanently. & do you have any favorite videos on YouTube or IG that you would recommend me watching?

@sc101071...wow congratulations to you! That's very encouraging to know. & yes this is why I need it to work & my insurance to approve me because I need a miracle! & that's amazing that you lost your obsession with food overnight. I was really concerned about that (I know everyone is different) but it's good to know it didn't take you long. & thank you so much, will do!

I wish I'd done this years ago. I was nervous and had doubts-- don't we all? -- but this changed my life. I'm so much healthier and stronger than I would have been without it, and my relationship with food is such that I'm in control.

@@triplethreat yes, I was nervous too. I've considered Tummy Tuck but my primary dr thought this would be much more beneficial for me in the future. I've put it off for about 4 months now but I'm truly happy for you & to hear you say you are in control is so uplifting. I can't wait to say those words keep up the good work! ????

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
