Hungry and craving foods Post surgery. Any help on this ?

Recommended Posts

I feel you. Almost 2 weeks out and I still crave food all the time, too. All I can tell you is to occupy your mind. Set yourself goals of how often to do your intake (I sip Clear liquids all day... but at 730, 1030, 130, 430, and 730 I add in a full liquid item like Protein shake, Soup, yogurt, etc) keeping it evenly spaced will help with how hungry you feel. Plus, take on a hobby or start a walking regimen or something... I make a point of getting 10,000 steps a day, minimum... so when I'm feeling hungry but it's not "time" for something specific, I walk till I get to the next milestone I need out of my 10,000

It's a struggle... but it is worth it and it will improve!!

Thank you for giving the times that you add-in Protein. I'm having issues coming up with a schedule. I swear at times I feel like a young child again. I need step by step by step instructions. Grrr lol.

I'm right there with you. I had my sleeve done Monday. I'm not really hungry but it's super bowl Sunday and I'm sipping Water and broth. Not a beer, no wings... I'm a total crab today. However, I stuck to it and I know it will get better. Im glad to know I'm not the only one feeing this way. Addiction is right, and it is a sonofabitch!

Well, when it comes to addiction, the only sound advice I can give is to get help from a mental health professional. The only thing surgery did was make your stomach smaller. It did not magically fix any of the things behind why we got fat in the first place.

I always give credit to my surgeon for helping me lose 160+ pounds but it's the 5 years of group support meetings, 3+ years of personal therapy and 1/2 dozen self help books on cognitive therapy and addiction recovery that have helped me keep it off. There's NO WAY I would have been this successful without the mental support. It's never too soon to start learning new emotional coping mechanisms addressing the behavior modifications that are required to be a successful WLS patient.

I felt like that my first 1-2 weeks post opp also. It's honestly just head hunger and mine was so bad to the point where I was planning out what days I'm gonna have pizza and wings when I'm cleared for all foods!!!!

Now that I'm cleared for all foods I don't even want anything that I use to crave. It's all in your mind and you will get past that stage soon! Good luck :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
