I heard from a surgeon that if you have acid reflux you shouldnt get the sleeve done. Has anyone with GERD had the sleeve?

Did it make it worse?

I take omeprazole everyday currently. Thank you. I'm hoping they allow me to get the sleeve instead of the bypass

I have pretty severe GERD but still got the sleeve. It's usually not recommended, but I have an auto-immune disease and I take steroids. You can't take steroids with RNY, so my surgeon said the sleeve is the best option for me. My GERD has gotten a little worse, but I just take my Dexilant every day. I do have to avoid acidic foods. What really gets my GERD going in overdrive is Crystal Light. Odd, huh?

I didn't have much problem before the surgery but it's funny that Army gal Bonnie mentioned Crystal Light, that's what started making it worse. I guess because I didn't realize Crystal Light had so much caffeine in it. I haven't been drinking it and it's a little better. I take famotidine but I'm now down to only taking it once a week maybe once every two weeks, I'm eight months out from the sleeve.

@@WhtWdUGive620 I actually drink the CL without caffeine but it's very acidic to my system. I also can't drink diet lemonade from Chick-fil-A or any other no calorie drink that has citrus in it.

I ask the staff about my worries about getting sleeved with gerd every time I go for a weigh-in. They assure me that most people experience improvement after the sleeve. I have a hard time believing that after all I have read. They said if my gerd becomes worse that they can do a revision to a bypass. Sigh. I should be scheduled around the end of April-early May.

I drink almost a whole box Walmart brand fruit punch (crystal light) a day. Pink lemonade was my favorite, but it was giving me severe gerd. I take dexilant 60 mg a day.

I had Gerd for a long time but was able to control it with a healthier diet. My surgeon recommended the sleeve and I have not had any sign of heartburn. Just make sure to take your omeprazole every day!

I was concerned about that. I do have gerd that did get better when I had a hiatal hernia repair with my band. Now I'm waiting to hear if I get approved to revise to sleeve (had my last appointment on Friday, yay). I had asked and my surgeon said it can be controlled with meds if it happens. Not that I want to be taking a PPI for the rest of my life. But maybe I won't have to and I'll b ok

Pre surgery I took 20 mg of Omeprazole a day, every so often I'd forget and was usually OK, sometimes had issues on the day I forgot.

Post surgery I was still taking is every day. My doctor suggested trying to ween myself off it to see what happened. I started taking every other day for about a week and all was good. Tried to take it every three days but first time I tried had a lot of discomfort so I went back to every day. I'll wait a little bit and try again, but even with all the healthy eating it looks like it's here to stay.

I have eosiniphillic esophagitis, which requires me to take omeprazole everyday, but I'm hoping my GERD will improve at least

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
