What made you choose Gastric sleeve or Gastric Bypass specifically?

I have the sleeve. I chose the sleeve because it is less invasive, and it alters less of your anatomy with similar results. I have not heard good things about the bypass. I have heard that it is difficult to stay healthy after the bypass, and that that should be a last resort. Sleeve has worked fantastically for me. Even though we all know that a surgical procedure is permanent, at about 14 months out I am realizing that my anatomy really has changed forever. Sometimes I feel frustrated by it. But at the end of the day, the surgery saved my life. That said, I am really really happy I did not choose the bypass instead, but only you know what's right for you. Good luck!

I live in canada where the surgery is free so my surgeon picked what is best suited for me he gave me the sleeve because i am on the bigger side and that its it would be i bit complicated so he said do the sleeve and in if a year we are not were we need to be then it would be safer to do the bypass

I only wanted the sleeve as there is no malabsorption with it and that was better for me.

I LOVE my sleeve????

I had the bypass and couldn't be happier. My dad had the RNY 8 years ago and he's stayed steady for 8 years now. With the bypass, there can be more complications. Your body is subjected to malabsorption so I need to take Vitamins for the rest of my life. I also have to be VERY careful on what I eat because I'm subject to dumping syndrome. However, even with that said, I have adapted, I am happy, healthy, and down to my goal weight. I think that having the RNY was the kick in the butt I needed to stop me from eating like an asshole...I think with the sleeve I may have continued that route because it would have been easy for me to cheat... my friend who was sleeved a week after me can eat an entire back of skittles...I cant eat a single skittle or i'll damn near die from the sugar. idk...it was the perfect choice for me. everyone is different.

Good luck!!!

I chose to have the sleeve gastrectomy. I didn't want the more complicate surgery of RNY. I didn't want to have to worry about malabsorption, as fatontheinside mentioned, for the rest of my life.

Even though RNY patients tend to lose weight more quickly than VSG patients, the long term (3+ years) outcome are similar for both procedures.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
