Optifast advice needed

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am going for my consult tomorrow. During the phone call the coordinator asked my weight, she said I would more than likely need 3 weeks on the Optifast. I am ok with that as it will mean more weight off sooner, but am concerned on the flavors.

What flavor do you all like? Is there any that are awful?

Thanks!!!

I can't answer you question exactly but I can tell you what I did. My pre-op diet was for 2 wks. I mostly used the store brand of slim-fast high Protein ready to drink supplements. My doctor and dietician suggested I use a product called powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury but I had to travel to get it and the store brand was priced the same and easy to use. The high Protein Drink was 5 grams of Protein lower than the Unjury and higher in sugar so you have to watch that. For the most part I stayed on a high protein, no carb, low fat, no sugar diet. It wasn't bad at all and I lost 18 lbs pre surgery! Can't beat that!

I had to be on strictly Optifast for 2 weeks pre-op & 2 weeks post-op, the first couple of days were hard, but not bad after that. We had to choose between strawberry, chocolate, & vanilla...I thought the Chocolate was the best, but Strawberry was alright too. I am not a vanilla fan for anything so I may be biased. We got to try them before buying them in our nutrition classes. We also had Protein Shakes for 3 weeks post-op called optisource, and I could not gage those down. I thought they were terrible.

I am on day 6 of my 30day pre-op diet. I get a protien shake for Breakfast, 3 slimfast shakes a day and vegi's for lunch and dinner. I've been using the costco brand of slimfast. They only have chocolate but for 15 bucks you get 24 cans of ready to drink shakes. And I've found the longer I'm on them the better they are. I actually look forward to my chocolaty treat three times a day.

So if you have access to costco, like chocolate and these shakes are comperable I'd recomend them.

Good luck on your journey!:)

Take care- Tina

I was on Opti-Fast 5 weeks Pre-Op and 3 weeks Post-Op. I use sugar-free floavored syrups. I get them at URM or Cash & Carry. I like choc. shake w/toasted marshmallow Syrup, Peanut Butter & banana syrup w/ choc. shake. I also like pineapple, coconut and banana syrup w/vanilla shake. There are an endless flavor combinations. They have tons of flavors to choose from like cookie dough, almond rocca, peppermint patty, and just about any fruit flavor you can think of. I tell you, these sugar-free syrups have made my shakes very flavorfull and I continue to use them daily. Hope this helps!

I have to be on Optifast for my pre-surgical diet as well as post-surgical. I have been on Optifast in the past. I personally think the powdered stuff is GROSS but there are some who like it. It is a lot cheaper than the boxed drinks. As far as the boxes go, chocolate and vanilla are fine, I liked vanilla better. I couldn't stand the strawberry. I love the chicken Soup and the Tomato Soup both! The bars aren't bad either-I only tried the chocolate ones. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
