No really sure if I'm where I'm supposed to be..

Recommended Posts

I had the gastric bypass RNY (or is the r&y??) on October 5th. I unfortunately had a rare complication of internal bleeding, my incisions ripped. On top of that I have a blood disorder, factor5, which causes blood clots- had several on/around the area. The surgeon actually told my parents I had a high chance of dying. Luckily, I am still here. Had to spend multiple days in the ICU and then multiple days in the regular IP hospital.

I had some delays with my progress. I started at 257. 3 months out I am 205. My doctor tells me I'm where in supposed to be. I just don't feel I am. Does anyone else have this issue? It's as if no matter what you feel it's not enough? I barely eat as is but when I do I feel like a complete pig, when in reality I'm not eating enough.. My fear right now is my mindset has turned harsh, i don't want to adopt bad eating habits or a eating disorder. Has anyone struggled with this?

I also want to add my entire immediate family had had the surgery besides my youngest brother. I tend to compare myself to them. Ironically, I tried to help my mom not to compare herself to them as we are all different....

I just really want to know if I'm alone on this battle or is there someone somewhere struggling too....

52 lbs in three months is phenomenal. You'll need to adjust your expectations. I know you'll see people who drop like 30 lbs the first month, but they're few and far between. Your weight loss is excellent - above average, I'd say. I *was* a slow loser - the medical resident at my clinic told me that (not what I wanted to hear...). The first six months or so, I was consistently behind the curve. BUT, I've also lost 227 lbs (ALL of my excess weight - I'm now at a normal BMI). Your rate of weight loss has little bearing on your final result. Your hard work and commitment, on the other hand, has a *huge* bearing on your final result.

You are doing Awesome! I lost a lot like you the first 3 months and then it really slowed down. I think I lost the same as you and now I am 150 at 11 months post op! Losing 52 lbs. has to feel amazing. I know it did for me. I have been losing 3 to 5 lbs. monthly since October. Slow but, I am only 7 lbs. from my goal weight. Your results are going to be better if you aren't so stressed out! Start blogging, exercising or creating delicious dinners. I know I lose more weight when I eat more. But it has to be the right kind of more. Proteins for instance. I hope you start feeling your doing great, cuz you are! Best of everything to ya!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
