I want to journal my story, and if I can help anyone along the way I am glad.

I am at the end of pre-op day 5 liquids. My dr requires all liquids; 3 shakes with 3 extras the choice of Jello or broth or SF popsicle.

I have been doing two premier Protein shakes and the dinner shake is almond milk with MuscleTech % whey chocolate powder. Grinded with some ice I feel like it's a chocolate milk shake for dinner. snack 1 is broth, snack 2 is Jello, snack 3 is a popsicle. Lots of tea, Water and 1 cup of am coffee. I kept the caffeine for the morning to function and asked my NUT. She explained I may have headaches after surgery with it and that I'm ok.

Day 1 I felt like crap at the end of the day, sugar and carb withdrawal headaches were a doozey.

Day 2 was better and I used Tylenol pm to sleep off the last of TH headache.

Day 3 and 4 we're the weekend so I rested and drank Water.

Today day 5 was a busy work day. I am a supervisor and my work is non-stop. The busy was good kept me moving and going and no hunger pains. I think I have found my groove and look forward to what's ahead.

Sharing, I first was going to keep it a secret. Now I have told everyone employees, family, friends and I was surprised on how many positive comments/support I had. Even the person I thought would be negative was super supportive and asked so many questions.

I am glad I shared and was surprised by people.

I love this forum and am now starting a list of foods to try based on other people's posts when I am ready. Ricotta bake is number 1 on the list.

Good Luck on the 19th. I'm still waiting for my date which hopefully will be around March. Go tomorrow to see the NP so maybe she'll give me a better time line. My ins. requires 6 months of visits :(

Thank you Suaniya, mine was 3 mos. for the insurance.

Today is day 6 I have drank my magnesium citrate and waiting for any effects. I feel good I worked this morning then did my final pre-surgery workout session one hour with my PT of circuits and cardio. I felt my self tire faster than usual but still had a good workout. I'm not lethargic or exhausted as people have described. I am constantly drinking Water to try and keep my body going. So far the evening headaches are mild and other than 8pm hunger grumbles I am holding steady.

Morning of day 7. It is Wednesday tomorrow is one week to surgery. I am getting nervous and anxious for it to be here, and trying to keep my mind occupied.

I worked out yesterday and from being on liquids I am a little extra sore this morning but still feel good. Leg muscles ache.

I am down to 231.4 now 6 1/2 pound loss since day 1.

Good luck with your surgery. Just a few days away. These items came in very handy the first week after my surgery:

sugar free Pop's. 2 -3 boxes

Protein Water...I think I bought protein20.

I also used Mio with my regular Water so it would always have taste to it.

Awesome thank you!!

I have crystal light but it is getting tiresome. I have to look at protein20 I tried Isopure and yuck!!! How long has it been since your surgery???

I am on day 9 of the pre op diet, yesterday I forgot to drink a shake lol already not feeling hungry. Then today I want food... less than a week away now. I am now off work until 2/6, thanks to the holiday no work for me until after recovery.

I'm feeling anxious, scared (a little) and over all looking forward to having hope against this final 80 pounds. I still have energy but I am ditzy, I forget stuff so I think my brain wants food lol.

Here's to the next 5 days flying by!!!!

Day 10- liquid pre op diet.

I am below my required pre-surgery goal with 4 days to surgery!!! I am so glad I have no more work until February I woke up this morning thinking of me not cases and my employees. I love my job but on no food it was very mentally draining.

I plan to spend the next few days prepping my house, running errands and ensuring after surgery I can rest and recover.

In September I had my first visit and was 243. Today I am 229 and ready for more.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
