I'm new and 7 weeks post op RNY, had my surgery 12/12/16, I started at 260 on the day of the operation and currently been stuck at 237 for the last 3 weeks, I go to the gym 3-4 times weekly. I'm frustrated as hell here :(

I am 23 days post op and I have lost 41 pounds. I lost 31 pds in the first 16 days. I'm not doing so well on getting in my calories though. I've been pretty weak. I have another appointment with my surgeon tomorrow and I am going to ask for a dietician consult. I can't seem to find anything I can eat safely without pain or vomiting besides Clear Liquids.< /p>

You'll start to even out. Don't get discouraged! I know it's hard.

2.5 lbs may not seem like a lot, but it adds up!

I'm about 10 months out, and down 119lbs (SW 300, CW 181). That's about 2.64 lbs a week. The weekly average doesn't seem like a lot, but after 10 months, I'm a size 32 pant in men's and a comfortable medium shirt - I was a size 52 pant and a 2/3X shirt in March of 2016. I know it's hard not to focus on that number, but the more you don't let it rule your life and focus on getting proper nutrition (Protein, Water and all of that fun stuff) and setting yourself up for success, the better off you'll be!

I seem to be losing 3.28lbs a week according to my "monitor your weight" app. I thought i wasn't losing any weight and i just looked at mfp and i seem to have lost 11.4lbs this month so far. I wasnt expecting that with all the off plan eating and none eating I've been doing. Thought I'd gain or stall. I try to walk as much as i can when I'm out and about. I live in nyc so i am up and down subway stairs and escalators and walking blocks to anywhere. I just noticed from my walking app that just walking to and from the train station is a mile. I go that way every day so i could easily get in probably 4 or 5 miles a week just getting to work. Is that good? Should i strive for more? I am really lazy so If iget in my 6,000 step goal im happy but i usually shoot for 10,000, which isn't hard. Just lazy. Aside from that i have to go up and down subway stairs, and am usually walking in 10 to 15 minute bursts throughout the day. I feel like it's not enough but since I'm not getting in too many calories and im still losing pretty steadily I'll work on my eating and drinking so as the weight-loss slows down I'll have a better grip on my eating and will be able to incorporate more activity and actual workouts. Sorry that was sooooooo long. Just some things I've been working through in the almost 4 months since surgery

Nope, no hope so we must believe it's going to happen for us too! I'm realizing it won't look like someone else and truly that's ok. We have to remember and trust I'm preaching to myself too:) that we are making progress! Without the small victories we can't have the big victories. Also, are you working out? I started working out a couple of weeks ago. Even though the scale is acting up (bah hum bug) I'm seeing a difference and people really are based on comments. I meant to get a measuring tape to start measuring myself. Will do that today and perhaps you will join me so we can look at our overall results week to week. Take care!

Sounds like a plan, I will need to do it today. I also got an answer to why the scale isn't moving from my nutritionist, she said if you lose weight before surgery ( most of us did as we lived on Optifast for a few weeks) plus the stress of the surgery, your body goes into a reset mode where you won't loose as its trying to balance itself out.

So YES, there is hope

@ Sxapeel - I'm new too. I had my RNY on 1/25. I took the Miralax powder the day after I was discharged from the hospital just to avoid Constipation. It worked and I'm glad I didn't wait until there was a problem. Good luck!

Hi group, my first time posting . I'm 2 months post surgery. I'm down 33 lbs.

Don't be discouraged , because there have been times that I've remained at the same weight for 2-3 days. Then the next week will be down 2 or 3 lbs.

So , just keep going.

I lost 10 lbs a week on the pre and post op liquid diet. I started mushy foods a month ago and it slowed to 4 lbs a week.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
