Hello all. I was sleeved on Dec 7th I was doing great until about 2days ago I started experiencing GERD. I am on a PPI but I am not having relief. I never had GERD before but this pain. Rings me to tears. I am not getting my Protein nor my fluids. Having a hard time drinking plain Water. Having a lot of regurgitation. Trying to sit up after I eat and when I lay down. Was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions on relief. What should I drink? What should I eat that will help?

Gm, hope u had a nice holiday. Yes I have the same thing. I was also sleeve on Dec 7. The first week it didn't bother me but the follow week I was having chest pain and got admitted again. The Dr ordered a CT scan to make sure my sleeve was ok. Did show a lot of reflux. I'm taking meds to help with it. It's frustrating feeling the acid come up and a lot of saliva. Did u tell your dr?

Thank you sleeveisa from Florida. I just sent a message to my Dr. and asked if he could prescribe liquid Calfatrate. I read on the forum that this seems to help people better than the pills. Will wait for him to respond. But for now I am back to basics, homemade broth, cream of wheat, yogurt etc...

Thank you again !

GERD is a pretty common reality for many of us sleevers. I used meds for the first 3 months to help with the dragon fire that creeps up at night. I was on Nexium, but am not a big fan of long term use of PPIs. They are useful to get through the first 3 months while things are healing, but not as a forever med. Talk with your doc and do what is necessary early on. In 3-6 months, you'll want to consider options for getting off meds for GERD. I had great success using orange peel oil capsules (d-limonene) as a therapy to improve my GERD issues and have been med free for about 3 months now.

Thank you Teaqueen. Today has been much better. I switched from Omeprazole to Nexium and so far so good today. I made a homemade stock that has been cooking for 8hrs. Looking forward to having that tmrw. I started keeping a journal of everything I eat and what does and does not aggravate my stomach. Not chancing it by lying down at all after I eat or drink to minimize GERD.

Thank you for your response.

Carafate (antacid) is working wonders for coating my stomach. People in my program take it 4x a day an hour before a meal for 2-4weeks after surgery and Protonix once in the morning 30 min before a meal for a month

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
