Anyone from NYC getting sleeved December 12

Recommended Posts

Where at in NYC?

I had my sleeve done back in June and I've been going to the post-opt support group meetings in Queens. Met some really supportive people there.

I feel amazing!! The first couple of weeks before and after surgery were tough because we have to do everything we weren't doing before; like Portion Control, watching what we eat and exercising, but it's all worth it. My only regret is that I didn't do it 3 years ago when I first heard about it.

Right before surgery I was down to 322lbs from 352lbs. I had sleep apnea and high blood pressure. Now six months later, I'm down to 248lbs, no sleep apnea, no blood pressure meds, I can even run faster then my 10 year old son. I go to the gym a lot which helps tremendously but even if you just walk everyday you'll feel great! Some have more complications then others, so it takes more time to adjust to your new eating habits but I've never talked to anyone that says they wish they never got wls.

Not sure if you wanna travel all the way to Queens for the support group. Ask your surgeon about any support groups near you. We have one guy that works downtown but he lives in Long Island so when they have the meeting he stops in on his way home. Not sure if it'll be that easy for you

I'm having my surgery on Jan 30th. I wish I would of done last year but I just wanted to do my research and make sure I would be mentally, emotionally and physically prepared. Its a life changing experience that you cannot change back too. I'm having the Gastric sleeve and look forward to the positive changes. I was 245 b4 I went to the seminar, 236 at my first appt after the seminar and now I'm down to 224 lbs. Im so focused , anxious, excited and nervous but it's all to get my health issues in order. I have heart disease, high blood pressure and at the beginning level of diabetes.

Queens is not that far depends what part.

That's awesome keep up the good work. My daughter is the main reason I'm doing this. I want to be as active as I can.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
