Thinking about bypass

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

I'm new here and am thinking about having the bypass surgery but wanted to talk to some people who've had it done before. It's not an easy decision by any means and I would love some advice. I'm 23 years old, 290 lbs. I've struggled with my weight my whole life and I'm tired of worrying about the complications of being obese.

Any advice and before/after pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Megan

I just had my by-pass yesterday!

You are a young beautiful girl don't wait like I did, I'm 66!! If your not happy with yourself do it. Do it because you want to change your life. You mentally need to commit to a new lifestyle, mentally first & then physically. Good luck!

I had my bypass Aug.8th. My SW 281 CW 218 I choose the bypass because it's the gold standard and because I had acid reflux. I also wanted the extra restriction and the dumping aspect. I'm 45 and I wanted this to be the first and last WLS for me. This was the best decision I ever made.

Hi and Welcome,

I had my RNY July 2, 2013. I got below my goal weight in 6 months. This is my STATS: HW 249 (I did weigh 285#'s but managed to lose 36#'s and kept it off) SW 232 LW 117 CW 125#'s. I did gain 8#'s back, but this was after my DR.'s became worried. They thought I was losing muscle. I did have a few problems with STRICTURES ( basically like scar tissue) I had 5 ENDOSCOPES with 4 DILATIONS. With my last one being Jan 2015. I have so many NONSCALE VICTORIES a big one is being able to play and sit with my grandkids in my recliner with room to spare. Crossing my legs, buying clothes off the racks instead of buying Black and White junk of the PLUS sized racks only because that was all they had that fit. Medically speaking I use to be on Insulin and Diabetic pills plus I took 12 different medications daily. I am off all diabetic meds and now I take 4 meds and I take less than 1/2 of my blood pressure pills. I had hoped to get off of my BP meds but I just can't seem to LET IT GO!!! The stress. When I was ready to have WLS, I decided on the RNY because it was the GOLD standard surgery ( now the SLEEVE is coming right up there too) I figured I had one chance only so I figured I had to GO BIG OR GO HOME!! Even with everything that happened ( strictures etc) if you ask me if I would do my WLS again...I WOULD SAY WITH EVERYTHING IN ME IN A HEARTBEAT!!!! This was one of the best things I every did for myself. BTW I am 5.4 and I am 60yo. LIFE IS GREAT!!!

I had my surgery September 6th 2016. I am 3 months and 3 days out. So far lost 70 lbs since surgery and I feel great! I am 27 and weighed 304 when I starting dieting for this surgery. I've been a heavy girl all my life and needed to do something about it. My husband and I actually did the surgery together on the same day. To us it is the best thing we have ever done so far. No regrets. Best advice is if you are thinking about the surgery make sure it is what you really want to do because it is a life changing experience.

This is my before and current picture. Left picture was 3 days after surgery.

Awesome Cindy!! You look wonderful. I think it's fabulous you & your husband did together!! My husband did nit need surgery BUT he is definitely changing his eating habits! He's even cooking, something he has never done in 41 years of marriage. Keep up good work

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
