Having surgery in a few weeks. What did you wish you had brought or were glad you did bring to the hospital?

Chapstick, toothbrush, toothpaste and hair ties. I used all their stuff. And when I wasn't sleeping I was walking. You won't need anything. I brought ipad, a book, cell phone, didn't use em.

I agree with okiegirl. I had surgery in Mexico and just brought toiletries, underpants (very loose), and an extra teeshirt and yoga pants (also very loose). I brought $200 cash but only used $60-bought some ice pops, paid for some cabs, and a few souvenirs for my kids.

Yes, I read to bring loose pants so when you walk around u will feel comfortable instead of wearing only the gown. Yes something for your lips and a spray for your throat. A lot of people state that their throat hurts because of the tube their put in your throat.

I brought loose pajama pants and top, a bra and a tank top to put on once I was able to get up to the bathroom, as I HATE staying in a hospital gown. Toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm and face/hand cream. Cell phone, charger, tablet for reading/playing games. I ended up staying a second night because of my labs being out of whack so it was nice to have something to do besides walk.

Depends on how long you are staying in.. I took a lot more as I was in for a few nights (planned stay)

Toiletries, mobile and charger, kindle and magazines, lip salve (dont use if you are on oxygen!), pillow for journey back home (if in a car), Gas strips (even if just used to freshen your mouth and nothing else!, 2 nightdresses, comfy outfit for going home and flip flops. Im sure I might have taken other things but can't remember :)

The only things I used in the hospital were underwear/pajamas, toothbrush and hairbrush, chapstick, and biotene mouth spray. My mouth was so dry and the chapstick and mouth spray were life savers. Everything else that went with me stayed in my bag.

I brought all kinds of stuff that I never touched. Only things I used/wore were my sleep shorts so my backside was covered when walking around, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, chap stick (although they gave me one), and my crocs. I had my tablet with me and used it once, to let my sister know I was OK. I also brought a throw blanket (the kind you get at Walmart for around $4) to use as a prop for my head, to help me get into a comfortable sitting or sleeping position. I was in the hospital from 5am on a Wed until 2pm on Saturday. I slept a lot, walked as much as possible, watched some TV, and had some visitors. I was given sponge mouth swabs and ice Water to keep my mouth moist- otherwise I probably would have used my Biotene spray (which I still have, unused...)

Drawstring pj pants and a robe. I walked a lot after and it made me more comfortable to be in the public halls of the hospital.

I also brought toothbrush, face wipes, breath strips.

Don't bring books, magazines, iPad I was in the hospital four days and didn't pick any of those things up.

Good luck!

I didn't even mess around on my cellphone honestly I was too out of it. I think the only two things I consistently used were slippers and a robe. Also wore my change of clothes home :) The first two days were the toughest for me so I poured all of my energy into resting and scuttling around the hallways.

I just brought a hair tie and toothbrush and toothpaste and hair brush. I wore loose pants, slip on shoes with good tread and comfie top. I was released the next day. I just wore the clothes I came in in. Brushed my hair and teeth and went back home to recoup. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
