Fluid intake one week post-op

Recommended Posts

I have a bazillion questions tonight.

I'm one-week post op. I have yet to be able to even consume 10oz in a day, let alone 64. Is this normal?????

Yes, very. I wish surgeons told patients that the hydration goal is something to work up to and not something you'll be able to do right away. Keep a beverage near you and sip, sip, sip. Make it a point to drink more tomorrow than you did today, and more the next day and more the next day. It takes some effort to get in 64oz at first.

Are you getting in Meal Replacements? That counts towards liquids too. So do popcycles, Jello and yogurt.

I have no problem getting in my 64oz as I am constantly drinking something. My biggest fear after surgery was they would limit my intake of fluids due to the smaller pouch but have done remarkably well!!

I am 2weeks after surgery and dwn 23.4 pounds haven't had any issues with nausea no vomiting and So sorry to hear that some people have a really hard time..

Thank you for easing my mind!!! My Dr said to concentrate on fluids before Protein so I don't get dehydrated. I tend on the hypochondirac side of life so I was very concerned something was wrong. I absolutely love this forum!!!

You need to be working on increasing Fluid day by day. I had my surgery on Halloween and my first post-op appointment yesterday. My surgeon would have been very concerned if my Fluid had been that low, watch out for signs of dehydration. I was struggling with the Protein requirement and my surgeon fussed at me!

Sip, sip, sip all day long.

I had to make a schedule...

8-9am- Drink

9-9:30- Dry (No drinking)

9:30- eat

10-10:30- Dry

10:30-11:30- Drink

I keep it up all day long and get my fluids in for the most part. I live by a schedule right now. I hate it but it helps.

The Fluid in your shakes counts as a liquid so hopefully you are getting more than 10 oz a day.

I had a very hard time with Water the first week. Managed 16 oz if I was really trying. I found that warm liquids were easier to swallow so had a cup of warm (hot makes the powder clump) broth with 1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein powder (~11 gr protein) and sipped a cup of hot Decaf earl grey with milk twice a day. I and on day 16 and drink about 80 oz of clear no calorie Fluid without any problem. Even ice Water.< /p>

I really upped my Water intake during to try to stave off cravings and hunger early on.

Since the day we left the hospital, we've been drinking as much as possible. I've not had any issues with getting 4 bottles of Water over the course of the day, especially since we're not eating solids, so there's no schedule for us.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
