How much of a fill for my 11cc band?

Recommended Posts

I have the Inamed 11cm. band. During surgery my Dr. put in 4cc's. After 6 weeks I had 1.5cc's added to it. I don't have much restriction and have only lost 15 pounds so far (almost 3 months out). Question: I am self pay, need another fill, have to travel to Costa Rica to do this and don't want to go for a fill as often as if I had a local Dr...... how much of a fill should I ask for?

I know that the ladies who have the 4cm bands get smaller fills, but it seems to me that with this band I need more each time to feel it. Do you think if I ask for 2cc's next month that will be too much to ask for? I don;t even know why he used the 11cm band (BMI 32%) but it's too late now for that question. I just want this band to work better than it is at the present!!

Thanks for any advise you may have! :)

I have a 10cc band. Is that that same one you have? My first fill was 1cc and I still can't even tell I'm banded. I noticed that Ryan got 3cc's on his first fill. I'm going to call my dr next week and tell him he has some 'splainin to do, LOL! I am going to demand an aggressive fill followed by a swallow to make sure it worked.

Hi Blossum, I also have a 10cc band and have seen alot of different techniques used by Doctors. I had to become very patient with the process. I can tell you this, when I did start to get restriction, it was almoast 4 months out at 5.5 cc. I threw up for days. I still needed severel more fills, and even need one more now, at 6 months out. I throw up for a week everytime I get a fill. Everyone is different, and your experience may vary, but you will not hurt yoursel going slow as apposed to fast. One more point, everyone who gets overfilled at my doctors takes some Water right after--It can take hours, even a day to kick in. The Water after the fill test is weak at best.Good luck Blossum .

For Iluvmyboys, I would pay a physician locally and get the fill process monitered. Local doctors who do the lap band surgery are going to want to help you get to where you want to be. From what I hear, as we lose fat from the outer stomach wall, we will need more fills ocassionally. My Doctor charges 40 dollars per fill--It is the most important aspect of weight loss with the band and I really pay close attention to it. I am at 6cc and need more--that is not uncommon. It may take another .5cc or .2cc--I wont know until I get it and I am waiting until after the holidays to do that. If .2cc is not enough, I will go back in 2 weeks for another fill. I love my band. I will lose every ounce, and I could not be happier. The slower the loss, the better the skin issue, is the way I look at it. Best of luck, Dave

Mrs P

Have you considered finding a Dr. locally for your fills or going to TJ, Mexico instead of all the way to Costa Rica. I know my Dr. in TJ does fills on anyone who needs one wherever they were banded. Where do you live? maybe there is a Dr. in your area or a Dr. closer then Costa Rica, just a thought.

hi

i was banded in france with a 10cc band and my surgeon says that my first fill will be 3cc as this is what he aims for with all his band patients. 1cc in a 10cc band seems very small fill wise but every surgeon has his own way of doing things. This doesnt seem much fun for those of you that have to travel quite a way for each fill as it must get very expensive keep having to make trips

love tracey

Hello,

I was banded on April 19, 2004. I have has 6 fills. Is something wrong with me or what? Each time I tell my dr. that I need more restriction he just tell me that I am doing fine. I work out and light weight training and with all of the fills and hard work seem like that I would not need as many fills. I am really concern about

that because I dont want to miss up!!!!!{274start227rightnow}

Kattie, do you know what size of band you have? The newer, larger bands require more fill. Are your fills done blind or under flouro (with a barium swallow)? Has your band been checked for possible leaks? Are you feeling restriction? Is your fill dr. convenient for you to get to? Does he/she take time to listen to you and answer your concerns?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
